Upholstery Fabric Durability
Comments (15)Be aware that Crypton fabrics have an impermeable coating on the back that can make it difficult for the cushion to "breathe." Sitting on a Crypton cushion can feel different from sitting on standard foam cushions. You sink down slowly and then the cushions "firm up." Although most homeowners do not have a problem getting used to this, some people do find it uncomfortable. Many people do not like the typical feel of the standard microfiber suedes and velvets, but there are other variations with other textures if you look around. In addition there are microdenier fabrics. These have fibers that are even smaller than the microfiber fabrics. They share the same durability and easy cleanability of the microfibers but have completely different textures, including the feel of a brushed cotton. An example of Microdeniers that feel like brushed cottons would be the Geo and Echo fabrics made by Dorel. They are also considerably less expensive than Crypton or Sunbrella fabrics....See MoreCrypton Upholstery Fabric
Comments (6)Look at Jo-ann's online- they have most of the colors on the crypton website plus some that aren't on the crypton website. There are a lot of soft neutrals as well. The online are currently on sale. I think some of the major designer fabric manufacturers(Kravet, Robert Allen, Duralee etc) have some exclusive prints but it takes a bit more research to find them. Look under "contract fabrics". http://www.kravetcontract.com/search/fabresults.asp?Code=CON&Cat=CRY-Crypton&Price=All&mill=&Page=1 http://www.robertallendesign.com/searches/search_results_graphic.aspx?tp=finder&type=fabric&brand=4&color=0amp;usage=7&cat=0amp;style=0amp;design=0amp;performance=0amp;finish=326&pageSize=14&pageNum=1 Here is a link that might be useful: Joanne's online...See MoreHow do you feel about microfiber upholstery fabric?
Comments (19)Our DS has a futon with a microfiber- covered cushion, and it is still in good shape after years of college dorm life, and moves and people and dogs sleeping on it. It even survived life in a fraternity house! And years ago I had a pair of navy slacks in a microfiber fabric that I used to take on trips. They were really and truly miracle pants. They didn't stretch, sag, stain, or go limp, and were actually wash and wear with no ironing needed----and I have EVERYTHING ironed, even my sheets, so that is saying a lot. If you can find something you like in microfiber, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it....See Morebest family friendly upholstery fabric
Comments (9)I love my Crypton upholstery. I chose this one from Greenhouse Fabrics. I think Crypton comes in many different blends of material from many different manufacturers. You would never know mine is high performance; it feels like a nice rayon/cotton blend, with a great, soft feel. I've spilled a whole glass of red wine and my grandson got chocolate on it - and even though it's very light colored, it cleaned up with a damp cloth and some dish soap. Not a trace of a stain from either. I think different blends have different cleaning requirements, so I'd for sure look for one that cleans with water and not solvent. And this one is made in the USA. https://www.greenhousefabrics.com/fabric/b5605-parchment...See MoreTaralyn
