Question for anyone who has experience with pollenless sunflowers
Comments (3)In my experience, pollenless sunflowers still produce seed. I've read that seed will grow, however chances are it will not be another pollenless sunflower. If you're not planning to grow row upon row, you could deadhead, or cut off the flower heads after they fade but before they produce the seeds. But if you're planting a lot of them I suppose this wouldn't be an option. If it is an option then I suppose it would be better to go with a 5' variety rather than an 8' variety so they'd be easy to reach....See MoreAnyone who has hired a design firm, how long did it take?

I totally agree with everyone that I don't want to use this particular designer (or both as I was assigned to a team) for my project as it's obvious she has no excitement about it or interest in it. I'd like to first speak with the owner about being reassigned to a new team who would love to take on the job. The reason I say this, is because as a hairstylist, I'm typically the one in the salon that is given the disgruntled client (from other hairstylists), or color/haircut corrections. I absolutely love the challenge. I understand when clients don't receive the service they deserve, I am very good with empathizing, and it's so fulfilling to me to go above and beyond to get the job done and make the client happy. It really makes me feel good to put a smile on that client's face and for them to LOVE their hair! I'd like to give the owner the chance to perhaps approach my situation in the same way. As far as the cabinet maker, I'm sticking with him. He did my sister's kitchen, bathrooms and laundry room cabinets, as well as two of her friend's homes. The workmanship and service was absolutely excellent in all of them. They're all beyond pleased. The price is excellent, he's a smaller company. I'm going with the same style cabinetry as my sister, in a different color. My sister did tell me that the cabinet maker prefers a French country style, and the ideas he drew up for her (from a design perspective) weren't her style at all. She and I have the same style. I totally understand what you're saying though!! And I really appreciate your concern :) I'm not of the same mindset that if the cabinet maker can't come up with a good design, he's not a good cabinet maker. I had a contractor finish my basement. He drew up a design for it. It was awful! I actually ended up designing it myself (that's the one space that worked out for me when going it alone haha!) and it turned out amazing. His workmanship was excellent, his design skills...not so much :) Besides just layout, I have a door pantry I wanted to turn into a Butler's pantry, if it would even look right. I'd like a designer to do that so it flows with the rest of my space :) I did try to do a drawing and post it on here quite awhile ago. Obviously I don't know what I'm doing because I guess I drew two elevations on the same picture. Half the kitchen was as if you're looking down on it, and the other part was looking at it head on. Comments (18)Mine was that "am I going to regret plain white plaster" thread and I think some folks who had had both did say they were the same. Barco is right - Stonescapes is cheaper - PebbleTech would have cost an extra $1500. My PB told me it was essentially the same - the pebbles all come from the same factory, the main difference was that PebbleTech really police their installers, which I'm sure is why they have such a great reputation and so many thrilled custmers. However, the StonesScapes rep couldn't have been nicer and more concerned when I spoke to him. Unfortunately, his hands were tied, as to get him out to look at the pool, I first had to go through my PB company (the GM told me he'd been told by the pool start-up guy that I had the best plaster he'd ever seen!), then the plaster company (who came out without telling me and removed "a tiny little leaf" that was stuck in the plaster and was causing the rough spot I spoke about). I was pretty mad about it so the GM has agreed to meet me tomorrow with the StoneScape rep. I was worried that maybe I was being too much of a perfectionist, and I would get the same sneers, and looks of astonishment that I have had from the PB before when thing weren't right (and there have been many!). Anyway, if they say it's okay, I'll live with it. My pool is beautiful, and when the waterfall is running you can't see it anyway. Gina - I do think you are right about them wanting to do the right thing, and I'll certainly sing their praises every chance I get when this is resolved. Also, that is so great that PebbleTech fixed your spot and saved your water. I must remember to ask them to save mine too - I haven't even had the water bill for the fill-up yet and I certainly didn't want to do that again!...See Morehas anyone used bacqyard design !?
Comments (33)A few months ago, I gave their services a try and ended up working with Mark. I'm based in Maryland and was a tad worried about how the communication would go, but turns out, it was smooth sailing. I could reach Mark easily, whether it was via video call, phone, or email. We began with an intro call that ran for about 45 minutes. We chatted about the nitty-gritty of the project, my hopes for the backyard, and did a virtual tour of the property using Zoom. Mark was really attentive and asked a bunch of questions. Roughly three weeks in, I received the first draft, which included the 3D visuals. They gave me the choice of either scheduling a follow-up call with Mark or just leaving my feedback notes on the platform. Initially, I thought the call was going to cost extra, but it was actually included in the package, which was a pleasant surprise! Who would pass up on a free chance to chat with a designer again, right? So, I booked that follow-up call. During a screen-sharing call, Mark took his time to go over the entire design, explaining the reasoning behind certain choices. I gave my two cents and we agreed on the changes that had to be made. Around a week later, I got the revised 3D visuals, as we had discussed. After giving the design a thumbs up, I got the final design files a few days after. These files included 3D renderings, installation plans with dimensions, planting plan, material list, lighting plan, a shopping list for furniture and accessories. Overall, the whole process was great thanks to Mark, and in the end, I was happy with the result. There was one glitch - I had a bit of a hard time uploading the property photos to their platform. But their customer service team sorted out the issue quickly. They gave me other options for getting my stuff over to the design team. So, a little advice to anyone at bacqyard reading this, a bit of an upgrade in that area might be worth considering. Apart from that small snag, I had a pretty solid experience.
