Join us for lunch in CT?

As some of you might have seen on the conversations side, I had the serendipitous experience of driving down a country lane yesterday, and coming across a familiar house.

It was the lovely home of AnnieDeighnaugh here on GW!
It turns out Annie is only 30 minutes from me, and I was taking a scenic route on an appliance-shopping expedition, and by happenstance, found myself driving past her home.

Annie and I are meeting for lunch in Westport next Thursday. If you are interested in joining, just email me at MtnRdRedux@gmail.com.

In the future, we may also try to schedule a larger Fairfield County area get together and find a mutually convenient time and place.

Another Fairfield Countian here -- I'd love to meet up! But Thursdays aren't good. Maybe on a Monday or Wednesday sometime :)

gibby3000 - I lost weight because I was basically scared into it. I do run 3 times a week and go to the gym 2 times a week but I was doing that while I was carrying the extra weight. My DH and I were renewing our life insurance in Jan of 2009 and because of our ages at the time (56) we had to have a little check-up by the public health nurse. She dropped by the house and was doing our weight, blood pressure, blood tests and heart monitor. I knew I was carrying extra weight but I didn't know how much. Anyway, she weighed me (I didn't look at the number) and then took my blood pressure and she noted that it was quite high. I didn't know why. I thought to myself - I exercise, and I think I eat properly. But whatever. She took again at the end and it was still high and she commented that it shouldn't be that high. So then I looked at my weight and just about fell out of my chair. I was shocked at what I weighed which was about as much as a man. So I got on the internet and just started researching healthy eating, checked my BMI, looked at calorie counting, looked at what fat is and how many calories are in a pound, etc. What I realized is that I can't and wasn't prepared to exercise anymore so I had to look at my food intake. I don't eat chips, cheezies or any type of junk food (dark chocolate is definitely an issue and continues to be so) but what I was doing was just eating too much food during the day. I was exercising and so used that as an excuse to eat but that attitude does catch up with you eventually. I found out through research that 1 pound has 3500 calories in it and so if I want to lose a pound a week I have to drop 500 calories a day. So, no more mid-morning snack, no more eating dinner leftovers for lunch and no more cheese and crackers in the afternoon. I started eating a sensible, prepared for me by me lunch. Some fruit, some protein and a carbohydrate. I do get hungry mid-afternoon and so I have applesauce with cinnamon. I do prepare sensible dinners but now I don't have seconds. And nothing after dinner and that was the hardest thing to let go of. It took 9 months to lose 42 pounds and I feel so much better and that is what keeps me motivated to keep it off. My running is better, my walking is easier, bending to get things is easier - I just feel so much better and that is the incentive to keep it off. The changes that I made were ones that I knew I could maintain over the long haul. I didn't give up the cream for my coffee because I knew I couldn't give it up for the long term. \\ I think that it's important to only make those changes that you can maintain for the rest of your life and not miss. If you can't give up that cookie at night - cut back someplace else but still count it in your calories, if you can't cut back sugar in your coffee for ever then cut back where you can and not miss it. Eating healthy and maintaining a healthy weight shouldn't be or feel like punishment for life. A couple of people have commented about how they blew it one week or were "bad" over the weekend. During this process I gave myself permission for the occasional lapse. I knew it was going to happen because I'm not perfect, I'm not a robot and I'm trying to break a 25 year eating habit. You don't do that without a misstep along the way. Now, I have given myself a 5 pound leeway for those times when I'm away or we have a busy couple of weeks of entertaining. I do weigh myself everyday and do start to regroup if I put on 3 pounds. I don;t beat myself up if that happens because now I have the tools to deal with it. This is just my opinion but I don't believe in these fad diets because they are too hard to maintain as a long-term lifestyle. (I'm not talking about diets relating to gluten allergies or diabetes, etc) Like I said - my opinion.

I am going to have to cancel as well - daughter is still sick, in fact, I think she may have added either a sinus infection or a bad reaction to one of the medicines to her list of issues, because she has a super bad headache and says the room won't stop spinning. So it looks like I'm going to be spending my afternoon at the pediatrician's office (again!). But definitely next time - anywhere in King of Prussia works for me -- has anyone been to the new mall extension part yet? We could make it a group mall tour! Thanks for organizing this and I hope we'll try again even though life got in the way for some of us this time.

Amazing coincidence! You'll have to post pics as suggested! I often wish there would be a meet-up for anyone in Northern CT/Central-Western MA/lower VT+NH.

PeeGee, that would be easier for me than Fairfield County. Or maybe we could meet somewhere North/NW CT and drive to Fairfield County together. If you are interested I will open my email option.

Mtndredux - Yes it's a lot of territory, but going from say very northern CT or very southern VT/SWest NH midway to mid MA is not all that far....Eandhl; unfortunately, most of the time I have only Friday's off. Do you think there might be interest in a more Northern GW meet? I wonder as I seldom hear references from this area, but often of lower CT....I'm embarrassed to say I don't know how the email option works

I am working on finding a sitter, no easy task as all mine are now in school :( , but if I can find someone to watch the little ones I would love to join you girls. I also will look for show houses in the tristate area for maybe a GW get together this fall?. If I can not make it I hope you have a wonderful time!

Not to hijack your thread, but for those of you who mentioned a desire for a NY area get-together, Caroline (trailrunner) is supposed to be up north next month, and we will try to plan one when she is in NYC.

(elizpiz and rococogurl said to count them in!)

Hope you all have a great time in CT--be sure to post pics!

Not a hijack at all! I was going to suggest NYC, too, for a more organized one. This is impromptu, if you will! It'd be great to see Rococo and Elizpiz again, and you CatMom. And ive never met Trail!

Ya'll are sweet. I hope that we are going to be able to make the planned trip to Canada which was to include a return through the City. Will have to keep cat_mom and roco posted on it. No bread as I will have been away from home for a couple weeks by then. Ask cat and roco to bring theirs !! c

True story: I ended up making a dear friend this way. I was looking at a house online on a dÃÂ©cor board, my son walked in, looked at the computer and said hey- I've been in that house! Turned out it was right around the corner from my work!! We got together for lunch and became real life friends, lol.

It's always fun to meet up with forum buds! Sort of solidifies the bond you have already made on line. Sure wish I had an excuse to come east for a few days, but am gearing up for the Round Top Antique Show then off to IL for a a 3 week visit with my best friend of 51 years.

Several years ago I met up with 4 gals from a decorating forum and we went to the Rose Bowl flea market for the day. They also came down to San Diego, where we spent the day at a local swap meet as well as several antique stores. One of the gals appeared on the Christopher Lowell Show(twice)and was also featured in Romantic Homes magazine. It was 'back in the days' when home decorating shows were big and the decorating frenzy was going strong.

Again, have a great time and make a toast to those of us who are there in spirit. ;o)
