I have applied the Gila frost-look window film. I had to because my dog couldn't tell the patio door was closed. Ouch! Anyway, I decided a few months later that I overdid it and wanted to trim down a bit. It was really stuck on good. I used a razor blade and carefully scraped away the excess. I would definitely not hesitate to buy it again.

It looks like they have made some changes since I bought mine.

I looked into both types of film, the type you apply with a special adhesive (that needs a remover as discussed above) and the type that is applied only with water. Since I was worried it might look cheesy, and wanted to be able to remove it easily, I chose the latter. I have to say I am VERY impressed with the product. I used it on the glass-paned door in our (modern) master bathroom. Most people think it's really etched glass.

How big are these windows? I ask because the hardest part is getting all the teeny air bubbles out, and making sure you don't get any dents or creases in the material before it's on the glass (which show as white marks when applied.) I assume you'd use a plain uniform etched look in your modern home. Unfortunately that shows every little mark much more easily than the fancy patterned type! But it IS do-able, and relatively easy, especially if you have a helper.

You may want to call a professional installer, the diy jobs can be really difficult. I once put up a privacy screen film from home depot and it was mirrored on the outside. It looked pretty awful from the outside. If your window is too big, you'll have to do a seam. Have you talked to your association to make sure it's okay because it does alter the appearance of the outside?

We used some on a master bath that looks out onto the front yard - it was a garage conversion but I didn't want to replace the original windows because they looked so "period" to the house.

Mine were a multitude of 2' x 2' windows, but Stacey has a great point about the application on big windows...getting bubbles out was tough even on the small windows. Oh, and they looked cloudy for a while before they dried out completely to a lovely frosted haze. You can choose your opacity, there are a lot of places on the web selling them.
