French Interior Door to finished Basement

We are in the process of replacing our wood floors due to a water leak on our main floor, so we have the opportunity to make a few changes. Our home is a traditional two-story with living room and dining room on either side of the foyer. The family room is straight through the foyer. Our door to our lower level finished basement is in our foyer. The problem is when the door is open it blocks the doorway into our family room. So you cannot leave the door open. We are considering removing the door and door frame and just wrapping the opening. My husband is concerned we may miss being able to close the door and close off the basement for noise and heating/cooling. He is suggesting that we replace the door with a french door or other glass door to open up the space. This does not solve being able to leave the door open but it would at least open up the space. I have heard of others using a glass door but have not been able to find any pictures. Has anyone done this and if so do you have a picture?
