Finally! Pics of the 'Princess Room' in PA!

So many of you gave me your input this past winter as I refinished 7 pieces of furniture for my 5 yr old grandaughter's room in PA. I just returned last Sat. after 3 hard weeks of work. Primed & painted the entire room,and decorated it. For anyone interested in seeing several pics-if you go to the Kitchen Table forum-look for the subject "Sharon FL's Princess room" and you can see what I created. If I had the capabilities-I'd post them here but my msn unit doesn't have that capability, so my friend posted them for me. Again-thanks to all who helped w/suggestions, paint color, etc. Sharon

What a good mommy you are! The new bedroom sounds dreamy enough for any little princess. How to stay motivated? It helps me to have some excitement about the final outcome. Do you have any inspiration pics to put up on the fridge to keep your spirits up and your motor running? There are a number of them in the Gallery in the post on kids rooms. There are also some in the bedrooms post, and even more in the Cottage Decor post. Close this thread and you'll find a link to the Gallery at the bottom of the page that lists all the threads. Also another link at the top right just above the list of posts. I second Dian's brilliant suggestion about audio books. I get audio book CDs from the library and listen to them in the kitchen, or wherever I have mindless work to do. I love them. I'll bet if you snoop the web you can order a ready-made slipcover for that chair for not too much money. You might start with eBay and amazon.com. On the sewing, all you're talking about is sewing straight lines. That isn't difficult. Seems to me you must have a gf who would be happy to come over and supervise you until your "rust" is off. That would be a lot less daunting than a class, to me at least. Your mom or mom-in-law might like to help. When our kids are grown and gone, we suddenly feel unwanted, useless. We are thrilled if we're asked to help. We feel valued, and if we're retired we have the time. Well, most of us, anyway. If yours don't live close they could at least sew a pillow or something. Just a thought that could improve family relations and lighten your load. Make a family party out of it. You supply the steaks, hot dogs, the barbee, and the paint, and invite them all. They can bring salad, dessert, etc, and extra paint brushes or whatever. I'm looking forward to helping with my granddaughter's bedroom makeover somewhere in the next few months. I'm really excited about it and I'm collecting ideas. One idea I ran across is these giant tissue paper flowers. They would be so darling hung from a little girl's ceiling. Do you like those? This URL shows you how to make them -- very easily and cheaply. It would be a good project to do with kids, depending on the age of the child. Thanks luvs. I had a ball doing this despite each of the 9 pieces had 2-3 coats of primer, 2-3 coats of semi gloss & 2 coats of varnish! The pics don't show it but there are aurora bourealis (sp) stones scattered amid the detailing on the wooden medallions, etc. all of the furniture is edged in the 14k gold paint pens. The Cinderella on the headboard is removable for later years when her 'theme' has changed. I will certainly take room photos when I get it all done. I will get in PA on 8/25 and after a couple days rest & reuniting w/friends & family, will begin Chloe's castle!

Hi Sharon -- I answered you in Decorative Painting but wasn't sure you'd see it so I'll answer you here too. First, please take a look at my ceilings thread in our Gallery. I'll give you a link to it below. You will find tons of gorgeous ceiling pics there to inspire you. Second, please don't ruin your neck. Paint your ceiling on canvas, then "starch/glue" it to the ceiling. That's what I understand the "biggies" do. Seems to me you could do it on lightweight paper and decoupage it up? Another option would be to simply do the whole ceiling in fabric, gathered in to the center/chandelier. I'm wondering if you could tie fabric to a hula hoop that surrounds the chandy, then drape it off to the corners? Just a whacky idea. The way I've seen it done, it was stapled up. Oh, also escucheons for light fixtures/chandys are relatively inexpensive if you just want to purchase one. I think most hardware or lighting stores carry them and I know I've seen them on the web. One more idea that isn't painting. I've seen lattice suspended parallel to the ceiling and silk flowers and twinkly Christmas lights woven into them. Very flashy (literally). Hi again, Thanks so much for the measurements! I think we can work something like that in our smaller bedroom and still have enough floor for his bed.... I will have to measure tomorrow when I don't risk making noise near the bedrooms (our sons sleep with their door open). He still wants to sleep with his brother, but they have made a few comments about having their own rooms soon. We can relocate the computer and set up the room as originally intended for him. That is one beautiful room. I cannot believe you did all that. You must have much more energy than this 63 year old. Did you paint the bed and attach the beads on it?
Did you do all the painting there in PA or were the murals done at home and then attached somehow to wall?
I love the whole room and also like the feathers that you seem to not be too sure about.
And of course Chloe is adorable. A real Princess!

Thank you for your kind words! Lyban...I happened on a house/lawn sale last Oct in downtown St Pete-the last hour it was open.There were TWO sets of this twin head & footboard. The guy saw me looking at it & said "I'll give you both sets for $25". Natch, I said 'SOLD'!
I used the 2 footboards on each end of the bed & attached the headboard to the wall. Her room is only 13x9'6" so it worked for me. I primed & painted all 7 pieces of furniture here in FL then rented a cargo van to haul it to NC, where my son met me & we flipped the stuff into his van then proceeded to PA. The beading was wooden-a part of the bed's design..loved it! I added aurora borealis stones to some of them as the heads of the beading was missing on several of them.
The murals were quite a project. I looked & looked for a product to paint them on and got wall paper liner from HD. I penciled the scenes on here in FL (using carbon paper & 6 different coloring books to get the perspective I wanted of the characters-I did my own background & foregrounds)) but all of the painting was done up there. After I got the scenes done-I sprayed them w/ a matte glaze to seal the acrylic paints, then added iridescent super fine glitter to her bridal gown, her slipper and the fairy dust. I also added faceted silver stars to the skies w a silicone glue. THEN, after sizing the arched areas of the walls, I used wallpaper paste to attach them to the walls.
In another post (a page or 2 back from the post with these pics linked here) on the KITCHEN TABLE is another post about the Princess room. It has before & after pics of all of the furniture I did.

What a wonderful job you did for her! She must be over the moon! But more than all the great painting or design or imagination, the greatest part is the love that comes shining through. She may not always remember all the details when she is grown, but she will long remember her grandmother who did so much for her out of love.
