The first option, most definitely. I love those tables in this room! Are you having second thoughts about using your new tables in your other room?

I think one could work as an accent next to the bergere, but they are too small and I don't care for it with the pie crust table.

Val, I prefer your "new" Craigslist tables in your living room. To me they are a bit more formal. As much as I loved your living room before I think these tables make it even better! I never would have guessed anything could have made it better.

It's one of my favorite living rooms, if not my very favorite living room. When my ladies parlor grows up I want it to be just like your living room is in the third and fourth pictures.

Definitely the first. No tweaking needed here! put those tables back in the other room, they looked good.

Ok, now that I'm looking again maybe they are too small for the lamps. I honestly like both tables in there. Your LR is beautiful! Guess I'm probably not being much help. . . ha that's why I find myself posting here often!

The first ones look good. The second ones are nice tables but too small for that spot.

My vote is for the first pic also. If I had a room as perfectly beautiful as yours, I would not change a thing!

My personal vote is the first also. I wanted to see everyone's answers, though, since I'm decorating challenged and before I posted my family room thread as I thought some would say to just swap them with the FR.

As much as I love these tables, I don't think they really work in my house--unless someone can help me make them work in the FR. I think I'm going to follow Joann's advice to clean and wax and keep them in my FR until I can figure out what does work there--since I'm decorating challenged this could take sometime:) Started a new thread for that though.

Well, not to cause you more frustration, but with out reading, I just glanced at the photos and the third took my breath, then I read the comments. All of your pieces are lovely but I think my reaction was to the beautiful legs of the tables with the beautiful legs of the chairs. To my eye, the tables are so perfect, the lamp is what I'd change, maybe two lamps if there are plugs, slimmer, more delicate. That lamp is nice and just right for the first table, but looks almost tropical next to the other pieces and the rug, but something more like the ginger jar on your mantle? I really love your room and the beautiful details.

Just saw your other room, and if the first pic tables fit in the family room, I think they work with the furniture in there much better, you can even change your look with your moods or holidays or seasons with fabric draped on the tables, keeping the small antiques in the livingroom.

It would make it so convenient if this works as then I could move the other drum table over to the FR and put a tablecloth on it. But somehow, I keep thinking what a decorator once told me: the eye needs a place to rest. Something needs to be the star here, is it the tables or the chairs?

That is why I was wondering if these tables worked in my FR. The FR is very simple, straight lines and then these tables were all sexy curves and inlay. It drew in your eye and commanded your attention whereas here, it's just one more lovely thing in a lovely room. But, I freely acknowledge I am a novice at decorating and sometimes have some eclectic ideas of combining disparate elements. I'm just waiting for my DH to roll his eyes and say, "What were you thinking?" What I can say, but these tables have great sex appeal and I have no practical use for them.

I actually liked them best on each side of the fireplace. Isn't that a third table next to the first chair entering the room, so you have two matching round, one other round, and two antiques? I liked the contrast of the table and chairs in the third picture. Not matchy matchy but very interesting and to my eye, beautifully balanced. What fun to learn there is a piano in there! Even more impressive what excellent arranging you have done!

I think they're quite nice in the lr and complement the chairs. I also like the additional wood color in there, which complements your pillow colors nicely. Flanking the chairs or the fp, I don't know. I'm not crazy about them in the same view as the pie crust table though.

bodica: Yes, there is a drum table also in the room. I need one table by the sofa so one is in there in the pic. I tend to agree with squirrel I don't much like it paired with the DF pie crust table in the room

squirrel: Don't you think it's too high for the bergere chair? Do you like it the last pic or the first arrangement w/o the pie crust? I did find a possible spot for the little pie crust in my DR. Perhaps I could use as a plant stand? I really cannot sell it--as you may recall it was a gift.

I like it to the right of the fp as an accent. Flanking, it jumps out as their being too small overall. No, I don't think they look too tall with the chairs, though the one with the right chair looks a bit close to it. The French do high coffee tables, not sure about side tables! but will look. I think they look nice together. Test will be using them for service and if they're comfortable that way.

I wouldn't part with any of them, lol. I'd be afraid a live plant would ruin that lovely pie crust.

It's just a consideration, as the drum tables seem to work in your family room as well. It does leave that left lr corner open and needing something.

I'm very maxed for a big ps undertaking : ) Maybe when you settle on what you like. I haven't been following that thread, only to see the tables in there, and don't have a feel for area as a whole.

I still love #3 best, pie crust and all, lol. Love that discription of the DF, and those antiques are too fabulous, love looking at them, so elegant and graceful.

squirrel: I'm confused. With these tables you said, don't mix a few old pieces with new stuff; yet you say the drum tables work? DS already left a glass on one of the drum tables and it has a ring. Ack! I think previous owners did a DIY refinishing job and I need to put some poly on them if they are going in the FR. These pie crust tables seem to have a pretty shiny top and I'd actually worry less about them plus they are rather "distressed" I'm very careful watering my plants in this room. I take to the kitchen, water them there and return them later. If I leave it there I will get a cork mat to put below.

The new French-y tables look old and have a lot of Old World character. Your DH drum tables are not new but have clean lines and appear to have fresh finishes, so they mix better, imo.

Looking at your kitchen, the sofa, and what I believe is a new tv console? I would follow that direction and not bring in vintage/antique pieces. I do like the "new" table with the chloe chair/fabric, but overall that styling just doesn't make sense to me in there. Sorry : ) I would take your cues from your beautiful kitchen area since they're open to each other.

Curious, I can not tell from these pictures, are the antique tables taller than the piecrust? Is there only one piecrust and when you say drum, those are the first pics round duncan's? I'm so easily confused.
Maybe you would like having glass cut to fit atop each table. Another beautiful touch might be glass trays of some type rather than coasters that are sometimes forgotten to use. Plants can also fit on snce plates, bowls or trays to protect.
I still like the antique's each side of the fireplace, because I feel the large sofa fills the left side. I think I might like the piecrust next to the entry chair because it is a bit shorter? and the trim base rather than four more legs infront of the chair four legs.
In the FR I still like the drum duncan's with the furniture, which you could cover just the top with a waterproof flannel tablecloth, finished with a beautiful fabric of your liking over the protection. Can probably cut two protectors from one vinyl/flannel for penneys until you find something you love.
There is no right or wrong, just what make you feel comfy and happy! All your pieces are fabulous, I wouldn't part with any either, but admit, I covet you two antique tables,lol.

I prefer the taller of the two, the short ones to me look to squatty next to those beautiful chairs. Love the separate picture (7) of the two chairs with the tables, lovely! It's such a nice room, looks very comfortable.

I love your 1st set of tables, those get my vote. I just love seeing pictures of your room Val. You have done such a wonderful job with it.

Val, I like both sets of tables.
Try this, take the floor lamp and place it behind the sofa -- (down the end of the sofa,) about a foot or so
from the end of the sofa. Then start by
placing the new tables along side the sofa and the old big table by the end chair (next to the FP) and the little old table next to the other chair....post the results...

Can you place one of the big tables in your foyer?

I moved it back the way it was before. It just felt too visually over stimulating for me, plus the wood didn't match the rest of the mahogany. I do like the tables, though. I'm still contemplating using one in the FR.

I do have another possibility for the second one in my DR.

Val, regarding your mussy fringe -- do you know how to pick up the one corner of the rug and lift the whole side up into the air and flip it kind of like a sheet so when it drops back down it lays all down flat and neat?

I really like the table in the DR! You are right--it is sexy enough to stand alone.

How is the height in comparison to the other pieces?
