Follow up question to the blue front porch ceiling

Whenever I read these threads I get so many ideas of things to try that I would never had thought of. So after seeing jjean's blue front porch pictures got me wondering...

Do you need to have an old/historic farm style house to pull this off? I have a 80's split, which has a front porch that is approximately 8-10'x3-5'(guessing). The porch has a decorative post with white spindles, chocolate wicker furniture, eggplant color front door, plants and other decor to make it cozy, as we sit there often. The ceiling is vinyl, not beadboad, but has a similar style look to it. Maybe wider sections.

My house is beige, with blue shutters. Now I'm inspired to try this, but not sure because I don't have the old style homes like in the south where this style came from.

I don't have any photos to share, but would love to hear some thoughts about this. My thought was the color of my blue shutters, which is a color close to a federal blue.
