Just wanted to say I don't want oatmeal colored fabric for the other chair, but a relatively-same-colored black or brown, with the same *texture* and weave, would be great. I was just trying to describe what was there now.

And wanted to say that the owner of winterbeachmodern has always been really great, in my interactions with him, even though I haven't found the fabric I need there yet. If I did, I'd order from him immediately, because he's cheerful, helpful, professional, and FAST.

I still have the kind of nubby/tweedy/neutral fabric you're seeking on my late 70's teak dining room chairs. The cats have had a field day with it, so it definitely needs replacing. I'd feel free to upholster them with something very different. The kind of clean-lined natural wood frames I'm imagining (in the absence of pictures) would probably go with just about anything. How about real or faux leather or suede? Animal pattern? Microfiber in sage green or tan or black or other neutral? Unless these are really collector's items, think about something different from the original. You might also try automotive upholstery companies.

Thanks, lovesummer--but that would be much too easy :). No, seriously, I'm completely aware of the possibility of recovering DM chairs with different fabric (yep, cleanlined teak frames, with slight curves), but I would actually just prefer to keep that nice cushy textur-y wool feeling (probably in a solid, to go with the cool but busy fabric I have now). Takes the edge off the teak, and provides textural interest. Don't want leather or suede or microfiber...I do have a coat material of a very textury wool (I tend to buy pieces at GW when I find them if I love them, to save for this kind of event) but it just doesn't work quite well, and honestly it's a bit *too* think to go smoothly around the bottom of the seat.

The search continues...I'd be interested to see what you choose to re-cover your seats with--there's so much to choose from if you want to go with Knoll or Maharam or s.l.t.

It's frustrating, isn't it? Nothing on eBay, nothing. If I do find something, rio, I'll definitely post. It will probably end up being at GW. I should just buy all the fabrics I see there that I like. I'll use them someday.

I found some excellent choices in fabric from the store below. I bought a LOT of yardage from them for a good price and it was delivered in a timely manner.

Take a look around and see if they have what you want.
Also, Joann Fabrics has a big sale on all fabric now.

If you'd like a bargain try fabricguru.com. They have a wool blend in Oatmeal that might suit your use. 3 yards for under $20 includes shipping. Other fabrics to look at are in the retro/contemporary upholstery wovens section. Type the word wool in the search box if the link isn't working. Fabric may be sold out by the time you read this. She sells remnants at bargain prices.

O.K., so after I said I'd want to stay within the original nubby tweed, of *course* I found a fabric at G'will I couldn't resist...it's a heathered black ground with rather well-delineatd raised brown velour-ish silhouettes of African savannah trees and animals! Just makes me smile and I knew immediately I'd be using that. I don't know who made it, don't know how to search for it, and it may be very vintage, so it wouldn't be out there anyway. Luckily, there is enough for both chairs, so I'll have a little figurative but non-busy element amongst all the more usual upholstery fabrics.

Thanks rio! re the luck: I think my whole family's got it...e.g. my DH can manifest pretty much anything he needs there. Last night he needed a new espresso maker so he picked up a Saeco Via Venezia (all metal, pump mechanism) for $20. Works perfectly, has all parts -- he was singing the praises of it most of the day today :). I need a new cuisinart but I'm resisting paying up for it...I know I can find it if I wait long enough.

This project has also been put on hold until after the appraisal. One problem, actually, is where to put all the darn projects so that the house doesn't look like a workshop!
