Any experience with cowhide?
Comments (8)Why not a bound all-wool rug in a tweedish (read small stains not showing up) pattern. Wool is forgiving underfoot, can be rolled up and sent to be cleaned if needed, but pretty resistant to staining. You can sometimes find smaller pieces of wall to wall (room-sized remnants) and have them bound off to make an area rug. Cowhide would be fairly high maintenance I think, whether still with hair, or fully tanned. I think that gradually you'd vaccuum off the hair and then you'd have a cow rug with bald spots. The risk of tanning stink would deter me. It's pretty awful unless well-deodorized. Could you send it back and get a refund if it turned out not to be what you wanted? Comments (1)Skin stretches (yep, even dead skin like a cowhide). And that's a good thing. Yes the rug pad is encouraging your rug to do this more so than if it was not there (the more "squish" you have underneath, the FURTHER the hide has to STRETCH to reach the hard surface underneath). And I personally would say you are over reacting...but that's my perspective and not yours. It is your home. You need to be happy and content and RELAXED in your own home. If this bothers you than who am I to say "you're overreacting"? It is not for me to say. But a little perspective will go a long way. Remember that FLOORING (area rugs are in that category) are the MOST ABUSED surface in a home. They are SUPPOSED to get beaten up. They are supposed to get dents, dimples and dings. It is what they are built to do. You've already stated that you LIKE the softness. You LIKE the cushion. You LIKE the luxury of the rug+pad in your space. I would say these "likes" are far more important than a few dimples created by furniture feet (which happen with ANY carpet...think plush wall-to-wall carpet sitting under heavy sofa....furniture feet dimples are to be expected). I would say that you will want to figure out which is MORE important. The luxurious feel under foot, or the visual perfection of a piece that is meant as flooring. If the visual wins out, I suggest hanging it on a wall....'cause an rug that is too nice to walk on is useless as a flooring product....See MoreRug over Rug Help
Comments (2)Thank you Patricia. My entire house has wood floors (including hall) except for my bedroom because I prefer the soft feel and muffled sound in this room. I just replaced the carpet 2 years ago and truly considered wood but just couldn't make that transition....See MoreMatching comforter with cowhide rug?
Comments (2)more info about the room and your style preferences would be helpful I usually use plain comforters/blankets and then put a duvet on top. So I can variate the degree of warmness as needed etc. That depends on climate, personal preferences, etc. Of couse you spend then on duvet(multipe duvets in my case 'cause I like to mix up stuff)-but you're less stuck with one kind of coverlet, regardless seasons, your mood, etc. It was a (long) time in my life though when I had one patterned comforter, so let us know whether it's something you'd prefer. Otherwise..say you pick one by its qualities..warm, cool , thin, thick..then dress it wit a duvet..how about linen? Very comfy, relaxed enough to work with the rug..and you can use throws/pillows to tie it more in terms of colors/play with it if you wish Just as an example.. https://www.garnethill.com/solid-relaxed-linen-bedding-and-pillow-cover/bedding-home/duvet-comforter-covers/498717?listIndex=1 Frankly, all the colors would work with the rug as long as you decide on your direction. (I think they were having 30% off recently, the site) Now, there are also coverlets and quilts..thinner than comforters, usually, but thicker than blankets..did you mean something like them?...See MoreRelated Professionals
