Cute house! I am not sure the black would look great with the browm roof. I saw a cream house that had a dark blue-grey trim and it was really striking. I was thinking a dark blue with a brown undertone (if there is such a thing.) I think you should also look for a funky screen door and paint it a third color to add some more fun.

Awesome house - LOVE your porch! I just went through exterior paint choosing, and it can be tough. I ended up getting my color choices from the Certapro website (they were not painting my house, I ended up there from a Google search) and they have a "color expert" Shannon who has a forum that suggests actual paint colors - it was really helpful and FREE. I ended up using her suggested colors for my house (SW Tony Taupe and Shoji White) and am really happy with it - might be worth a try - good luck!

I would go with a grayish brown to tie in with your roof.

What look are you going for? It looks like sort of a nice, casual Florida bungalow now, with the greens. Are you wanting something more formal? Something bolder?

jakabedy: i live in a los angeles neighborhood full of bungalows, so something that wouldn't stand out too much. but otherwise, there's not really a look i'm going for.

Without knowing the interior style, I'd go with a greyed blue. I'm thinking about transfer ware, cream background with a brown or blue pattern, when I think of your house. A cottage.

I would do the trim in a lighter shade of the roof color, for definition. As for the front door, I would do either a really strong avocado green, or if you are brave, an electric blue. You are keeping the storm door, I am sure, so you want a color that will show behind it.

The porch I would do in the same white as the siding. You want to bounce light around there, and having a light flooring on the porch will help.

Not that you asked, but I would seriously consider cutting back or getting rid of the tall grassy plants on the front corners of the sidewalk. They block the house and take away from the charm. Move those to the outside corners on either side of the house, which will visually enlarge the house. Then plant a grouping of lower, colorful plants on those corners. Things with oranges, blues and purple tones would be very pretty.

les: my only concern with a white porch is that it would scuff and show dirt very easily. do you think a very light brown would work just as well? (for what it's worth, it's concrete)
and i would love to remove the plants! they grew much taller and faster than i expected. i wasn't sure what to replace them with, so i've left them, but your suggestions are really good ones. i appreciate them.

I can understand your concern. Perhaps if you go with a lighter shade of the roof color for the trim, you could do the same on the porch.

How about an orange/rust/pumpkin tone? Pick a vibrant shade and that would work with brown and cream. I think the only issue with your green is it is too soft a tone. I think bolder trim would make a big difference. It looks a little washed out right now.

I would paint the porch floor in a color close to what it would have been originally as concrete. Or maybe power wash the paint off and leave it concrete. Easier maintenance too.

For the trim, if not white, than something that blends with your roof color, but not too dark - like maybe the third color down on the paint chip. Then choose more of a statement color for your door and repeat it in your seating area in some fabric or accessories. I like lyfia's idea for your porch, or you could go a deeper shade of your trim color.

really cute house, oopsy. I agree with Les, move those grassy plant and put something lower there. actually, the green isn't bad at all, maybe just a stronger green?
