Need advice on painting a light fixture

Well I finally found a light fixture well enough to stick them in my halls/foyer for my remodel! One problem, they are the wrong color. My door hardware is black

and the fixture is an antiqued brown.

I dont know if I can remove the glass but I think I can tape it off as there is some room between the frame and glass.

I need to make it black, but how? I'm afraid straight spray paint might make it look "flat" whereas the finish has some interesting depth now due to a black glaze over the brown. Should I try black acryllic paint with a brush so I can control the coverage? or will it look better with flat black? Do I need some sort of special paint for metal?

Please give me any advice you have! Thanks!
