Comments (2)Use a soft brush for your vacuum. It will loosen surface dirt so you could brush it away. I use a regular one - but you need to keep in mind that there are different kinds of velvet, and what works for me might damage your sofa. So test your brush on a small spot first. Comments (10)“And do NOT use bar soap. Liquids only.” The issue is not so much liquid or bar soap, it’s how hard the water is; hard water minerals combine with the soap to form the scum. Furthermore, many liquid soaps also leave soap scum and are not an improvement in that regard over bar soap - it depends on the formulation. People tend to use greater quantities of liquid soap to wash themselves than if they’d used bar soap. Since most liquid soaps are chemical detergents, one has to decide if that is what one wants to use to wash in order to potentially—but not necessarily—save some soap scum from forming.
