SS setting up BS

My DH and I combined a household of my three sons 15, 9, & & 7 with my DH's son 13, He also has 12 year old daughter who still lives with their mother. The 13 SS has decided that it is fun to hide under 15 BS's bed and listen to his phone calls to his GF. He is hoping to hear BS say something he can tell on him for. DH thinks the SS is a good kid but has told him to stop this. BS decided to payback SS for his actions and told him that we had a ghost and waited under SS bed bangs on the wall which caused SS to sleep in the couch. So now both boys are mad. DH took up for My son SS got so angry he told his mother he was moving home. That would hurt DH so deeply. In the process of all the hiding under beds SS also upset me by calling his mother in my face while I was talking to him. DH will not confront him about disrespecting me. I ended up telling SS that I would not except any Tattle Tell on BS from info found will snooping where he don't belong. Anyother advice? BTW SS has only been with us about 2 months married 5 months.

Is it at all possible that SS is also just curious about girls and what BS is talking about? Maybe he just uses the excuse of telling on him? Just a thought.Boys that age are werid about girls.

Anyways,it has only been two months.Seems like SS is just feeling his oats and trying to figure out where he belongs in it all.Sounds like this is an adjustment period,although there are bound to be alot of tiffs between boys that age,things should get better with time.Hang in there!

I think the bigger deal that you make out of it, the bigger deal it will become to them. This is something that is also common just between brothers that are still in intact families. I would make each one apologize to the other for hiding under the bed and make it clear to them that snooping on family members is not acceptable. That family members are supposed to be able to trust one another. DH also needs to make it clear to his son that you are to be treated just like any other adult should be treated....with respect. And that if he does not respect you, then there will be consequences. Maybe that could be done in a "family meeting" to include your boy's and that they should be respectful to your DH. Just so SS(13) doesn't feel singled out.

Your guess is the same as mine... a little seedling... frankly, if you are growing hostas and not getting volunteers, it is probably because you are a good weeder and/or use preen. Not all hostas will set seed, and not all seed is fertile, but lots of varieties are very fertile. S&S, for example, is a very good breeder. If you move it, you'll know the answer. A young seedling will probably have no identifiable crown and about two major roots heading out as much horizontal as vertical. If it is a piece of an older crown, you'd likely find a little chunk of crown at the base of the eye. As far as care goes... hosta seedlings behave pretty much like anything else you start from seed. They like moist soil, plenty of water - but they want good drainage so they don't rot. They like bright shade, especially a yellow one. Enjoy your baby - and leave some areas unweeded or watch for teeny teeny teeny hosta leaves when you weed. The emerging seedling will often have one leaf that looks like its stem is under the earth and half or two-thirds of the leaf sticking out - and the leaf will be perfectly hosta leaf shaped - except tiny tiny tiny tiny version of a miniature. Better yet - collect some seed and plant it like you would carrots next spring. If you are excited about your first little yellow seedling, I can only imagine how you'll respond to a row of mixed yellow, green, and blue seedlings. You don't even have to collect seed from a lot of plants as the seed from even one plant may very well give you babies in all colors and sizes... Better yet - find somebody who started seeds this winter and can't bring themselves to commit hostacide - lots of seed starters end up with hundreds, maybe thousands, more seedlings than they can keep. Anybody live near St. Louis that wants to give BettyLu a hundred seedlings of so to adopt?

Hey Missy (waving~) You guys are very perceptive! The color swatches on the wall are color matches to two different tiles. I wanted to see how dark the tiles would make the kitchen so I took them to Home Depot and did a color match. Of course tile is so much different than paint but the overall darkness is all I was concerned with. The paint by the mixer is the center 4x4 tile and the darker one was Stellar Gloss in "Bellini"...I ruled that one out as too dark based on the paint. Suzyq - I actually cut up some of our floor tile but didn't like the look at all..too dark and much too much texture/coarseness. Great thought though! Annie- I've played with several greys but prefer the brown/grey the most...standard greys just don't look quite right. Kate- family doesn't care for the scale of that tile. wow it would be so easy to install that one though! The price is awesome as well. I'm still looking at it. I wish it were a tad less creamy though. Creams seem to muddy up the granite. Pricklypear....LOVE that green color but have been down that road and failed (bought 60 sq ft of tile and ended up not liking it one bit ...ugh) I agree the white is too stark. Thank you for your comments. I'm loving my kitchen but this final detail is still making me kinda nuts! I know any of the tiles (even the white) would look lovely. I just need to pull a trigger and commit to one. I'm very afraid of making a mistake here b/c I know we won't re-do the b/s anytime soon...if ever again! I think I'm going to call Fireclay and see if they'll send me some samples of a shade lighter than the malt tile... and check on pricing again! Thank you , all!!!!

UPDATE...I emailed American Range again in February, 2018 and got no response, as usual. I gathered up all of my previous emails to them since 2013, and sent another email in March. Finally, a response! They mailed me a part! But since neither the gas or the electric oven is working correctly, I don't know whether the part is for the electric or the gas oven. Another email sent. I have not heard back yet. However it doesn't matter how many parts they send because I can't lift a 630 lb wall oven. I still have not found a repair company that will repair it. So, I am keeping the American Range thread alive so others will know about the problems. The gas oven will only heat up to 375, but that is when I have the temp set to 425. My natural gas bill is high because it takes almost 2 hours to reach 375.

It sounds like both of them are exhibiting fairly typical behavior for boys their ages. Not good behavior, but typical behavior. I can imagine something similar happening between both of my brothers when they were teenagers, and they were bio-related. What's complicating the situation is the mine vs. yours aspect of things between you parents.

In my house, the younger one would have gotten into trouble for being in the older one's room without the older one's knowledge or permission. I don't think my mother would have told the younger one, "I'm going to ignore anything you tell me," because the older one could have been up to things that legitimately needed to be stopped... but the younger one would automatically have gotten in trouble for how he found out, too. It takes the shine off of spying if you get in trouble for how you find out the information.

That said, with the story you tell, my mother would have also had some repercussions for the older one, for tricking the younger one. Has your son had any consequences for that?

As for issues about respect, I think sminnj is right about your needing to establish rules for everyone about proper behavior. If you and your husband aren't both consistent and on the same page, you're going to struggle a lot with all of the kids. They'll exploit any inconsistency and any division between you when they're in the mood to be pains.
