Christmas presents

I'm trying to figure out what to do about a Christmas present for my guy's son. We're serious, but not engaged or married, so presents from Dad won't be from us both, but I would like to get A__ something from me. I don't want to overstep, but I want to show A__ that I was thinking of him.Obviously I'll talk to my guy about it, but what did other people do about Christmas when they weren't officially SMs yet?

I'm thinking of getting him books. He's told me how much he likes reading. The games/toys/movies he likes are mostly fantasy or sci-fi, so I was thinking of fantasy, sci-fi or ghost stories. Extra bonus: I'm a huge reader, so it would give us something else to talk about.

I have a nephew his age and recall the sorts of books I read, so it should be easy for me to choose. Also, with our dollar rockin' the way it is, books are way better value now and I can get good loot for my loonie.

Does that seem like it fits my not going overboard, but showing that he matters criteria??

PS - Yes, yes, I know that that "showing him he matters" is really about playing with him, listening to him, giving hugs and kisses, etc, and I do all that... But, let's be honest, kids like presents, especially at Christmas.
