What a beautiful room. Love the molding placement and two tone color choices. I do foresee a problem, however: I see a great chance of nodding off whilst ironing ("whilst" just seems appropriate to"McSpinster")and setting the manor afire. To off-set the serenity you've effected, may I suggest you install large speakers to blare out keep-awake tunes:>)! My mother used to saying ironing was a mental restorative!

Well indeed the room that has been relegated to "the press room" seems to be shaping up nicely. Thanks ever so for not torturing us with popcorn pictures...I typically want to scratch my eyes out when I see those ceilings. Glad your floor is revived as that carpet layer look is so yesterday!!! Looking forward to more pix of the grand transformation.

Love it, love it, love it! You need a small flat screen in there so you can watch movies while you iron. One of my fave times to watch something I know DH would sleep through!

Talk to me about the windows - you went from double hungs to casements - what kind?

Good morning. So fun to wake up to such nice responses to my little room. Due to the amount of cold medication I was on yesterday I may have misspoke on a few things. McSpinster Manor is only 1700 square feet with 1 1/2 baths. Hardly a McManor but it is perfect for me and my two dogs. Actually it is a little too big because I don't really need three bedrooms. The reason for this being the ironing room is more due to the lack of furniture at this time. This morning I woke up and the dos doggies were in there sleeping. So now I am thinking I will add the dog crate and a small daybed? (I reserve the right to change my mind again tomorrow.)

Deb, the windows are Marvin casements - clad exterior with wood interior - true divided lights (pain in the butt to paint even though they were pre-primed.) I love casements. One of the old double hungs had to be propped open with a 5 lb weight.

My ironing is usually done at 7:00 AM right before I run out the door but now that the room is so nice maybe I will take time to do it at one time. No cable in there so might have to settle on ironing music.

Jen, I have ironed a t-shirt before. My dryer wrinkles everything.

Sue and Tina, next on my painting list is the hallway linen closet and then the second bedroom which will be a home office. Since I usually only paint on weekends I should more pics in a few months ;) It took me forever to get this one done. Filling nail holes, sanding, caulking, painting, more sanding, painitng, touch-ups. I am used to painting walls but all this trim work is for the birds.

Hey moonshadow!! How are you? I got drawers in my linen closet. Very excited to store the TP in one of them. I always wondered how the spammers decide which post they will infiltrate. I would have preferred the beertap guy. Anyhoo, the upper wall and ceiling is from Devine Paint line called Fescue. The lower color is a mix of Devine Fog and EK Gustavian Grey. The pic of the floor is actually from the closet and that is EK Gustavian Grey - no Fog. The light fixture is made of a heavy duty plastic. If it was glass I probably couldn't afford it :) I do like it. I bought it for my closet in my bedroom but after I got I thought it would look cute in this room.

Lol on the pressroom, vampiressrn. You have to admit it was a good before pic. The ironing board was out of view that day. I think the popcorn on the second floor rooms bothered me so much because I had them removed from the first floor three years ago. You know how that is, you make one part look good and it makes the bad parts even worse.

Thanks for all the other nice comments, ladies. After 10 years of owning this house, the '80s have left McSpinster Manor!

Just beautiful (were those hardwoods under the carpeting?!). And the fixture is perfect there. What's the max wattage on it? I too assumed it was glass since it was made by the same co. that made our amphibian egg mass fixture...

flyleft, I had the floors installed in the two bedrooms and the hallway. I think the max on the light is only 40W but I have a 60W in there now. It better not melt. :-o It would be more gorgeous if it was glass but for the price it if fine for me. I do plan on getting the egg light but told myself I can't order until the room is painted. (Haven't even started :( Yes! I looked at that site and need to go back. Very cool stuff. I can't imagine being that creative. And I mixed the paint myself. The EK GG was toooo light and the Devine Fog was toooo dark. Mixing was just right.

Timmy! Billy is my neighbor and I don't believe he has ever fallen into a well. This Mucinex is really strong.

We have a home in our town that was featured in 'Country Living' or a similar magazine. The homeowner had stenciled ivy on the outside of her home and other cutesy adornments that didn't appeal to me. But she did have a hand carved sign made for her front porch and in a very elegant script it read: Mortgage Manor.

..........always liked that moniker...

Ha! I never heard anyone else call them "boob" lights, but that's always what I think! (I also removed the ones that came with my house.)

Lovely color combo on the walls. May I ask about the molding? How wide is it? How tall are your ceilings and how did you decide where to place the molding on the wall?

Hey graywings, I think you want to know how tall the molding is? I just measured and the main piece is 3 inches tall and then the little cap sits on top of that. I went back and forth if I wanted the little cap but I went with it because it matches other trim in the house. My ceilings are only 8 feet tall. When I was telling friends at work I was doing the molding they thought it would make the ceilings seem lower but I don't think it does. As far as placement, the trim guy suggested it. (He has such a good eye. I give him an idea on what I am thinking and he makes it better. He works on old homes in Mpls/St. Paul and custom built homes, too. I feel lucky he comes to work on my little eighties house. He did all the trim work on my first level reno three years ago.) Anyhoo, I think the trick is you just have to eyeball the molding so that the door and window trim look right together. I had it marked too high and he lowered it because he said the portion of door/closet trim would have looked wimpy on the upper side (if that makes sense.) Also, the top of the window is higher than the top of the closet and interior door to the room so we had to take that into consideration.

Since you are working in a bathroom I would suggest taping toilet paper on the wall until you think it looks right. Seriously, I had suggested this to my contractor because he had no clue on what I was trying to do with the trim. (Usually I have pictures to show him for my ideas.) But the trim guy showed up and got it right away. Old fashioned calculator tape would also work.

Good luck. I think it is a great idea for a silo bathroom. If you do it, please post pics.

KK, thanks for the info. So I am guessing the drop from the ceiling to the molding is about 20 inches? I would have never have considered doing that in a room with an 8 foot ceiling, but it looks wonderful.

I love the idea of using calculator paper to mimic molding!

Graywings, the drop is 16 inches. Calculator tape is alot easier than trying to photoshop.
