we were bored today so DD1 and I headed off to browse antique shops. At the back on one store DD exclaimed "oh mom, don't even look" lol there was a headless, armless torso

oh man

no price, so I asked the man up front and he said, I can let ya have her for 30 dollars.

Oh man

alas, I am well aware of my husbands feelings so... I had to pass her up

You have more will power than I. I guarantee you, I'd have risked a divorce and bought that babe. Your DD has caught your disease, you know. Get yourself back down there and offer him less, and he'll take it and you can bring her out when DH isn't home and work on it as you did his frame. THINK, girlie, THINK.

I found almost all of these (esp. in part 2) to be quite lovely but I do understand that we all see things in a different light. Me being relatively new to daylilies I gulped at the thought of them being discarded. Hopefully they went to new homes? (If not I'll give you my address for next time...:). I haven't been growing daylilies long enough to be tired of any of them yet and seem to love just about all of them, short scapes and all. BTW, my Lavender Heartthrob has scapes much taller than 22" and my Rapid Eye Movement had to be divided after just one season it was so robust. So sometimes it could be just the difference in gardens/climate I guess. I 'get' where you're coming from though about tastes changing or not being able to put up with certain faults. I am that way with roses. I was such a rose fanatic for so many years that at the beginning I couldn't fathom shovelpruning a rose, ever. Now about 100 of them have gone, mostly because the japanese beetles are a plague here but some went because they weren't vigorous or had bad foliage. I enjoy your blogs a lot, especially the photos. And that kitty is a DARLING. What a beautiful face he has! Celeste

Well the desk doesn't appear to have any drawers.... And the upholstery is really icky green.... *sigh*.... I remember so many things....right now a wonderful pine step back cupboard....covered with paint, but with the original turned pulls and door closers....going for $25....as my hand was raising...my DH (God rest his soul) leaned over and said "how are you going to get it home...." I blinked and it was gone!! The cupboard that is in the spot that one would have gone, cost $350....30 years ago....so it cost him!!! Then there was the Paul Storr castor set...but some of the bottles were not original...and the Bateman ladle...it was going for over my top bid of $35 ( I was young, dumb and afraid to spend a buck!) BUT....I have a house full of stuff that didn't get away... I am using as my computer table a walnut drop leaf walnut table, all hand made, hand turned legs....just a wee bit of Sheraton influence....cost me $1.75....no paint....needed a quick clean up and a coat of finish....and it needs another now. Keep looking...it'll be there! Linda C

So, I am not nearly as fun as bayareafrancy or sayde, but I am one of the ones who was posting for a while and then stopped--a) because I got discouraged by initial quotes for our reno and decided we needed to move, and b) because I got extremelt busy with work. I would love to tell evryone here all about that--I just don't know what GW allows you to say about personal business--the short version is that I sold my first novel to a major publisher!!! Anyway, along with doing revisions, we also found a wonderful reasonably-priced GC and are now about 2/3 of the way through a reno of the kitchen, mudroom and family room. I am really excited and can't wait to post pictures. And I will also be posting wioth some questions before too long... anyway, that's where I've been. I have learned so much from the forum and I think I reference it several times a day when working with our GC. (please forgive typos--I broke my arm adn typing is still tricky)

Slow took the words out of my mouth - "you have more willpower than I have." I would have started bargaining with DH ... "I'll cook your favorite meal - I'll take your movies back for the rest of the month - I'll give you back rubs everyday " .... LOL He can be bought - I just have to find his "price" ~~ LOL !!!

AMEN Too Much! DH has "Let" me have my ART Room, as a "Christmas Gift" to me! LOL! Yes Dear...eye rolling! Scrooge lives People! LOL! Plus a bit of house work and he caved!!!heh heh!

Besides, if you bought it for DD, it's likely more "acceptable."
And I'm SURE your DH wouldn't want to get in the way of a "together" project for the two of you...and mess up that "family bonding" thing.
Course, if your DD is young enough, you can certainly play the "this'll-keep-her-out-of-jail-off-drugs" etc card...cuz it's a well-known fact that doing stuff together keeps kids grounded...
But maybe you don't have to play the psychologist card yet. ;)

No you didn't??? You just walked away? Is it too late to go back? I also walked away from one, still have dreams of what could have been...did take home a $3 arm though. Easier to hide an arm than an entire torso. What am I going to do with an arm? I'll think of something bizarre I'm sure.

How sad that with your talent your husband isn't more supportive. DH is constantly bringing stuff home for me. He doesn't have enough of the proper anatomy to tell me no.
