Balancing out the 'No' - Ideas?

I have a little "what to do" conundrum that I could use advice from you ladies on...

Even though A__'s behavior is leagues ahead of what it was 6 months ago, he of course has occasional bad days (who doesn't? LOL!) where he hears a lot of "No" or variations thereof, such as "Be nice to the cat" or "Sit on your bum" and so on...

So there are days that I feel that the only thing he's heard all day is "No" (or variation) and he's probably feeling like a "big screw-up" (his words from a recent bad day)... We want to make sure he still feels loved on those days, and feels good about himself, even though he was being corrected all day.

So far, to help with this, we've come up with:

- playing a board or card game (not only interaction with a loving adult, but also provides him with something to do)

- extra reading aloud with him at night

- take him to the park and let him ride his skateboard on the nice pavement (not so good for the upcoming winter)

And all these things have really helped balance out a rough day, for ALL of us!

But now I'm stumped. I need ideas that take into account that we can't do something too crazy on a rough day, but we want him to feel better about himself... Oh, we're not trying to "reward" a bad day, just make sure he still feels like a good kid who is loved.

PS - of course we try to not "sweat the small stuff" on a rough day, but poking the cat and climbing on the table are never acceptable behaviors and require a correction... So when it's a whole day of that sort of thing, *sigh*

Ideas please!!
