I don't think she was necessarily talking about "paying" in the child support sense. I think she was talking about "paying" in the sense of her being a pain in the neck and making trouble if she can. It's too bad that she's talking like that. Hopefully she's just full of talk.

Does your DH have kids with EX. (I'm assuming so since you are here). If they have kids is he able to have a good visitation schedule with them? I would figure that if she is going to make him pay it will be through the kids and the visitation schedule.

How long have they been divorced and does she blame you for them not being together? If it hasn't been very long then she may have not emotionally moved on. I would not like that threat at all. I hope that she doesn't implode when she finds out. How much longer can you keep this a secret? Sorry so many questions....just trying to get a little background info.

Unless DH isn't already paying the "by law" amount of CS, I don't think she can get more money from him just because he's having another child...

But she can "make him pay" figuratively and make life much more difficult for him (and you).

Ahh, ok I see.. That is sad! I am in my 1st trimester. I believe in keeping it a secret until after the 1st trimester. I rarely if ever see her. She and DH adopted a child because she could not conceive. They have been divorced now 8 years. We have been married almost 4? She has broken up every relationship before me, but DH is in love with me, and every attempt to break us up failed. Not because she wants him back, I don't think, but because she is alone and miserable.

He does pay child support religiously, but now she wants more because "cost of living has gone up in CA". We are in FL. We have not told SS yet about his new sibling because he is a mommy's boy and she tells him just how she feels about us and if we ever had kids... :( I feel bad for SS and wish we could have physical custody of him, it would be hard because he has issues, but I blame her for his problems...

Anyway, that's it in a nutshell - I just didn't know what she meant by making DH pay for our having kids... :(

I think she meant it literally and figuratively. literally--as in taking him to court and increasing the C/S, I doubt she can do that. (Unless DH's income has gone up considerably or their custody arrangement has been modified or there's been some other change in circumstance.) But figuratively---can she make him pay? Well, that all depends on if he lets her affect him! But yes, I think she will try.

Honestly--it sounds like a deep, bitter, hurt and jealousy thing with her. You said she and DH could not conceive---so I am sure that she has some *feelings* about that, as would most women, and perhaps those are resurfacing for her now. I would brace yourself for her to be VERY difficult when she finds out about your pregnancy.

DON'T let her get to you. Her problems and her feelings are HER issue, not yours. Don't let anyone steal or take away from this special time in your life and your marriage. Congratulations!!! Have a happy, healthy nine months!

Dee, did the divorce , and child support order take place in California or in Florida? It makes a difference in where child support is determined.

I agree with everyone else. She'll try to make your life a living hell. But, like everyone else said, DH's income has gone up considerably, she can't really get more money out of him.

I almost feel sorry for her to be honest. DH and I are having our own sweet kids, and have a wonderful life full of happiness, and she is living in bitter misery...

Well then, the good news is that, since you are still in Florida, Florida retains jurisdiction over any child support modification, and it doesnt matter WHAT the cost of living in California is. I know California child support rates are very high, so thats probably what she is thinking - that she can get the amount she would in a California court.

YOu have nothing to worry about. Legally, she would have to file in Florida to modify, and the amount would be determined by FLorida law, not California. But if she does try to file, the fact that she moved to California will mean that your husband probably can get a reduction in his support, for travel costs to see his son. She will likely end up with less, not more.

SO, relax and enjoy your baby, and be glad she lives far enough away from you that she cant mess with your life every day, the way that some ex wives can.
