Mosiac bathroom countertop

Hey guys,

I have a friend that would like to make a mosiac stained glass countertop in her bathroom and pour clear acrylic on top. Does anyone have any experience doing this???

I do lots of stained glass, but I've never done a countertop or used clear acrylic.

Should we use plywood or concrete backer board? Sanded grout? Etc.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

I imagine that clear resin would scratch very easily . . .

One of our "addicts" here did a bathroom counter that turned out amazing!! I'll link you to that thread.
I would also be afraid the acrylic would scratch easily.
I'd also use hard backer for your substrate.

In areas open to each other, the granite is all the same - kitchen, family room, butler's pantry and dining room are all the same. All other rooms have different granite based on the color scheme in that room. Only a couple of the rooms have white cabinetry, but I will share several room pics to give you an idea of what we did. I took these pics last week immediately after installation so the countertops are pretty dusty. cultured marble bathroom counter top with integrated sink

FWIW I got a Swanstone counter with integrated sink in white. Its solid white (and I love it - so easy to clean). Bought it at big orange for cheap, after reading so poor reviews for cultured marble (which wasn't that much cheaper).

Thank you for all the positive feedback! It's greatly appreciated! The counter top is called louvre white marble (I will add a picture of the slab we chose from and a better picture of the counter top). The shower wall tile is called Style Selections Blairlock White.

I think if you used a grinder on all your glass, you wouldn't need the acrylic. I can run my hands over all my glass stuff. Just seal the grout real good, and there is really no need for it.

SLOW's makes mine look like a kindergarten prototype, but I DID cover mine with 2-part epoxy resin, and it turned out fine. Totally waterproof, and it doesn't scratch. Let me know if you want the link to the thread and I'll try to find it.
