Kids forgiving and forgetting?

helpwiththis

Do you think that kids can forgive and forget when one of their parents takes a leave of absence from their lives? By a leave of absence I am speaking of a year or more of being out of their life. Do you think that even if the child acts like everything is fine that they truly have put the thoughts about their parent disappearing behind them? Or do you think a parent leaving their child for a long period of time sticks with the child? I am not speaking of children who never met one of their parents. I am speaking of children who knew both their parents and then one just decided they did not want to be a parent anymore.
