Almost Done !!!! - Light House Bottle !!!

All I need to do tonight is grout . Black grout - yuck.

Here's more info about it .....

* I paid $3.75 for it !

* I kept it as a bottle that can OPEN ! I glued the original cork onto the bobache so it can be Uncorked !

Cool !

* I put river rocks all around the bottom .

* On the top part - this is the happy accident .... I made the round part with mirrors. The mirrors reflect the curves of the bobache and it actually looks like there are light bulbs inside the windows ! I swear - this is just too cool ! LOLLL

* The final thing is the topper. The glass goes up to such a small point - I couldn't figure out what to do. SO ---- *lightbulb moment*

--I'm going to put a cluster of rhinestones .

Whew - My brain hasn't had such a work out for ages ....

I'm in heaven !

Anyway - here's the last pic of it - ungrouted ...

To-o-o-o-o-o Cu-u-u-ute!! How clever you are to keep it a functioning bottle, as well as a very well done decorative piece! LOVE how it came out!

Like Dan alluded to, I'm a little uncertain about some of your facts. Here are some questions that might help us: 1. How much water are these trees getting? And, how often are you watering them? Have you tested the soil moisture levels at an appropriate depth to see how much water is needed? 2. Why is there no grass around the trees (especially in that last picture)? 3. Is your soil compacted? I sure get that feeling when I look at the pictures. 4. It may be a little late now, but why haven't you mulched around the trees? 5. Why have the trees been hacked back so awfully? Were the limbs dead?

HA = that's funny "buildinghome". We had zero problems, not one tiny hitch. Yet the home started off at $240K and we kept adding little things. Ended up at $253K. Little things add up. Double the size of the deck, better appliances, better furnace (make sure you get a good furnace and not cheap builders furnace). Upgrade from a cheap Lennox gas fireplace (a true builders box - run away if you can) to a Mendota. Make sure the water heater is not sitting on the floor (rust). Make sure you have a regular door in the garage so you will not have to open the big door all the time. 12x14 foot deck is too small for real use, we doubled the size and because we face south we used wood and not composite with gets REAL hot in summer. If you can get an extra foot of overhang do it. Good for shade and run off. If you are on a hill make sure the garage is on the downhill side of the house. Make sure you have windows on all four sides. I'm surprised to see so many spec homes with no windows in the sides! Wash tub in the laundry room is a must! Outdoor faucets, put them higher up so you do not have to crawl on the ground to hook up the hose. If you are on a budget, get the expensive lights for the living areas and go cheap in the bathrooms and other areas. Then once you get back on your feet buy the good lights for the bathrooms. Paint everything neutral until you see how the light falls in the house. Don't go fancy YET! We would also build in a heartbeat . . . . . if we had too! Thank you all! It is a real pleasure to be able to share a years worth of decisions and fussing with you all! Thanks also to whoever fixed my whackadoodle pictures in the first post! It is a smaller house, only 1000 sq ft in the 2 stories. Since I like to stock up on things I use a lot when on sale (canned soup, for example, which I take for lunch at work most days) it is nice to have room to keep it handy instead of in the basement, plus now I don't have plates, mugs and glasses stacked to the max in one cupboard. I could actually have made the new window bigger and the cupboard between them narrower, though -- I really didn't realize how much storage I was adding and the upper shelves are fairly empty. Romy thanks for the compliment on the molding. It was actually not what I asked for -- I wanted something simpler, but by the time it went up and I saw what I had, I just didn't want to go through the fuss and wait for a replacement (I was ill at the time). So it is nice to hear that it looks good! I did change the trim around the windows; the carpenters just put in quarter round and it looked both cheap and unfinished. I replaced it with the cove molding which I think looks much better (did it myself, too!) My favorite thing about it all would really be hard to say; of course just having enough counter to work on without balancing things on the stove should top the list! But, every time I pull open the base drawer to get a pot I smile!

Thanks for the help and compliments. I had a pretty long thread going with some before/during/after pics but it seems to have vanished (from about a year ago)? It's been a long and grueling process but very rewarding now that we're seeing the light (ha!) at the end of the tunnel. Luckily I've had a lot of help along the way from family and friends and GW. I made a separate thread for the chairs in the decorating forum with a bunch of options/pics. Decided that's more of a priority (lighting is livable for now but we REALLY need a full set of chairs). I love the red vertical glass with contrasting white triangular glass. Very clever. This is beautiful and can't wait to see it grouted.

Awesome project and so fast!!! You zipped thru it!!! Yup, I hear ya about the black grout, I've still got the 2 sides and top of tp tower left and have been dreading it, which is not like me! But I did do the rooster and hen bases with green grout and wow!!!

OMG I cannot believe how awesome that turned out!!! The black grout will just push it over the edge into fantastalistic!!!! You really did a great job on it and brought out its 2nd life!!!!!
