A possitive out come....

This may be a silly thing but it made me happy and I wanted to share it with you all....Last year we had my DD19 and her boyfriend over for sloppy joes and then we carved pumpkins. My SD9 had such a good time and the pumpkins really turned out great. I had purchased the carving kits and we were all surprised at how cool every ones looked. We have this little tradition that we do when we finish...we put the candles in them and then all go out onto the sidewalk and check them out.

Since SD had such fun last year I decided to make it a yearly thing and I asked my DS16 to invite his girlfriend over, I'll fix supper and we'd all carve pumpkins this coming Saturday. I thought we could light a fire in the chiminea that's on the deck and roast marsh mellows. He said he had already made plans and couldn't make it. I let him know how disappointed I was...he is never home anymore and that I miss him. End of conversation.

He came home last night and told me that he had changed his plans and talked with his girlfriend and they were coming. He said that he wanted to be closer as a family and he would rather be here than with his friends at a show. I was really touched. His friends are so important to him these days and going to concert is one of his favorite things to do so I was impressed. I had silently hoped that he would change his mind but had sworn to myself that I wasn't going to say anything else about it. I like to have him mull things over in his own mind and come to his own conclusions about things. He is a very kind hearted kid and usually does the right thing. With friends involved though you just never know.

I'm so tickled to think that he thought about it and decided to put us first this time....it may not happen next time but I'll take this time and enjoy it. He is great kid. One of the loves of my life.....I think my SD is really going to have a great time. She gets so much attention from the older kids when we do things like this and having a fire out back doing the marsh mellow thing should really make her night.Just had to share. Thanks.

PS.. I am the pumpkin carving Queen, just to let you know, so it is a competition of sorts! LOL

That is so cute! Your tradition sounds like ours! We use the kits too and usually envite some family and friends over. We listen to Halloween music and carve away! We bake the pumpkin seeds and roast marshmallows in our fire pit in the yard. Its a great time! Hope you all have fun as well!

Been doing this for some 30 years at least. I can't keep up with watering when it starts getting warmer and the sun starts to bake the south-facing garage. I am not putting "tender" plants out as they have been enduring chilly temps all winter in the garage. My garage collection is limited to mostly subtropicals with some degree of cold tolerance (Cycas revoluta, Dioon edule, Washingtonia, Butia (Pindo Palms), Eriobotra japonica (loquats), Phoenix canariensis, Syagrus/Queen palms, Even my White Giant Bird (Strelitzia nicoli) and Chamaedorea (a genus with many mountain species) have been doing fine, The only ones I may have to lug in again are the Citrus, but they were all so dry on the verge of death. I I have lost more plants over the years from under-watering than the cold, so this mild week of heavy rain will help them. Meantime, temps into the two week for the East are mild and WET into mid March. Today was in the mid-upper 60's and I see nothing under 40 as a minimum into the extended. P.S., Hardy bananas will not come out until some time in April, depending. P.S.2. Wow, just checked your local forecast in PNW8/9, that is cold. Typical for the West to be cold when the East is warm and vice versa. However, the Northeast is a global warming HOT spot, with winter warming especially fast in New England. Also the region with THE greatest increase in annual precip.. Scientists not sure why, may be related to record high ocean temps in the Northwest Atlantic, so off the Mid-Atlantic and New England coasts.

Hooray for Halloween! I STINK at pumpkin carving but it's so much fun! Jonathan had NEVER carved a pumpkin untill I made him buy one last year. The girls are still talking about "when daddy cut that pumpkin". It was really fun.

I am so so so broke but I went to the Dollar STore and bought some cheap decorations to go home and dress up the apartment with tonight. Our complex is doing a really neat little party the night after halloween for the kids with a costume contest, games and door to door trick-or-treating. All participating apartments have to "dress up" their porches so residents know who is participating. I'm really excited.

We are still trying to figure out what the girls want to be. Jonathan thought perhaps he should go as a Rabi and I could be a Nun...but I'm pregnant so that'll be a problem. LOL!

I know...hillarious right? I'm still considering it even though my mother would probably disown me. A Rabi and a pregnant Nun walking around holding hands and being lovey dovey....priceless. I kindof don't want to go to hell though so I'm thinking really hard. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

doodle......as a resident Christian....I think you should go as the nun. I think it's priceless. I've always wanted to dress up as a nun.....those knowing my past would think that quite absurd but I like the idea!

I might. I'll just hope God has a sense of humor:) Maybe the girls could be little angels.

I could always go as a pumpkin or a planet maybe...lol!

A planet!!!! Oh my goodness....so funny! I was at a costume party years ago and there was a very pregnant woman there...dressed as a ballerina! She was all in pink and so cute!

I know God has a sense of humor...he made me...:o>
