Oops. I forgot to state the game plan. I am trying to come up with an arrangement for art work to go over the bed. Since I am creating or buying specifically for this space I am open to size, shape and placement. The 2' square painting is the only thing I have so far, but I could use it somewhere else. I am looking for a creative arrangement and would not be opposed to something unusual or dramatic. I like mirrors, vintage tin ceiling panels, wreaths, architectural pieces, signage, and paintings, as long as the objects are arranged with balance and visual interest. I will paint any paintings, which is why I am open to size. I also work with clay and was thinking of creating textured tiles or panels to hang on the wall. The curved headboard has me a little stumped.

I'm a bit stumped too artlover. I've come back for the second time and see you've added more info. I guess the best I can do this late is to say that two similar smaller pieces on either side but lower to follow the lines of the headboard would work for me.
I guess a lot would depend on what else is in your room. I've looked at so many bedrooms I'm not picturing yours at the moment. But then I'm half asleep here and need to close up the computer and head to bed.

I just saw a picture with a curved headboard like yours. It had two pictures about the size of yours I think, each on the side over the bedside table. The space over the headboard itself was blank. It looked very nice.

I think I saw the pic on the thread by Sheesharee about her new bedding that she got from nanny2a.

Unfortunately i can't post a photo right now because the bed has been moved for painting. The bed is going to be the focal point of the room, with lots of pillows. The more I think about it the less I like the bird painting over the bed. It is a little too large and I'm afraid it's going to compete with the decorative pillows. I've looked at the bedroom thread and the cottage thread in the gallery until I'm half crazy.

Barb, I saw lots of bed pictures with either a picture or mirror over the bedside table and nothing over the headboard. I really like that look. Maybe once I get everything moved back it will be easier to see what works. I'm going to see if I can find Sheesharee's bed thread.

I'll put this idea on the back burner until I can post real photos.

I don't have any suggestions to offer, but wanted to say it that the silhouette idea was a great way to present the room. When I am imagining a room being decorated, I am looking more at the size and shape of items more than the items themselves.

I was looking forward to seeing what others would suggest. Pictures or mirrors over the lamps is a refreshing change to see.

I have struggled with what to hang over the bed myself. For many years, it was a cross stitch sampler my grandmother made for me when I was a baby....an easy default. Last house, I ended up with nothing. Just never could decide.

My gut reaction, when I see your representation, is that I'd want to see a very simple quilt or another piece of appropriate-to-cottage fabric art hung behind the bed and tables to kind of frame those lovely silhouettes. I just feel like hanging something over the headboard may begin to get too busy with all the curves already going on with the posts and lamps.

Did you do the bird painting? I also dabble a bit in mixed media and collage. The work is very nice. :-)

The room in my thread The Dating Game-Bedroom has a curved headboard and there are three prints hung in a triangular arrangement that seems to work pretty well. You could use your square piece in the middle and narrower ones to each side or do three rectangular pieces like in that room.

Thanks, Graywings, I was trying to break everything down to shapes and work on balance and proportion, but I think the pillows are going to be so busy that they may counter the shape concept.

Amysrq - Thanks for the compliment on the bird collage. Lots of fun isn't it? I wish that was all I had to do! I am calling my room cottage for lack of a better term, but it doesn't really look that cottage compared to lots of the ones I see in the cottage thread. Lots of those are very white and very frilly/feminine, which I love, but I don't think DH would be happy with that.

What about something like this artlover? If you have a Hobby Lobby near you they often have things like this in wood or other lighter material. Painted white and aged it could go with a cottage feel room.

I like the idea of working with the shapes, too. If you use that size picture (I LOVE the birds!), maybe you could go with some smaller ovals on either side (sconces, additional paintings, or shadow-boxed botanicals).

If you don't want to use that size painting, maybe a long but not tall picture over the headboard would look good. I also love the look of mirrors over the nighstands, so if you decide to go with that, let us see some after pictures!
