Double Hung versus Casement..Marvin Integrity?
Comments (9)Thanks for the feedback guys. The look is sixes with me but there is one wall of the home where I absolutely know I want DH because the windows are not easily accessible to clean otherwise. From a "Just do one or another" visual perspective DH would probably win just because of that. Does double hung tend to run less expensive in the Integrity line as well? I'm looking at 6 foot high windows in a few locals and the casements there appear to be standard tempered according to the Integrity catalogue. I'm going to guess that I could maybe get away with untempered DH and probably save some? Mooredb, have you had your jeld-wen windows long? How are they working out? I have to admit the overall opinion of jeld-wen windows on this very forum scared me away early on, tho I think even in the end the wood interior of integrity is worth the premium for us....See MoreMarvin Ultimate Double Hung vs Andersen Woodwright
Comments (3)I'm a homeowner doing the same research you're doing on DHs. My Ultimate was priced about $470 and the Woodwright was under $350. I couldn't justify the cost of the Marvin window. Plus, with Marvin, I couldn't choose the contractor. Just recently I found the Andersen A-series. It's a line above the Woodwright and in my opinion it is a nicer window. It even has the slick tilt mechanism you're talking about. It is a little more expensive than the Woodwright but still much less than the Marvin Ultimate. We'll be placing our A-series order within the week. I think the A-series has only been out on the market for less than a year and it is only in certain parts of the country so far. I'm in NY and both builders supply companies and Home Depots have them. Good luck with your decision....See MoreCan I Hang 2' Wood Blinds in a Double Hung Window?
Comments (6)I'm glad you two ladies know what I'm talking about. I felt like an idiot just asking the question thinking that the answer was probably going to be obvious. I'm not home now to do any measurements, but when I previously measured the depth at the top, not taking into account anything about the bottom sash, I was a little over 2", so I think I have the depth at the top, but then the blinds would fall and hit the top of the bottom sash and just sit there. annz - My home was just built, May 2007 we moved in. We have the Marvin Ultimate Clad Double Hung Windows and they are wood inside, so I don't recall any metal frame around them. When I get home I'll measure that narrowest point, but just from memory I think it's less than 1/4". I have three single windows that were built together as one unit. I have thought about the 1" wood blinds, I don't like the look as much, but I don't those would work if the narrowest point is less than 1/4", would they? I appreciate all of the help....See MoreWant Windows that blinds can easily hang in the frames - Marvin?
Comments (5)That is not correct unless I am missing something. First of all, they are available only on the casements with an operator (not push out). The shade and screen (behind it) are in one unit that sits in the same slot that houses a screen only on the interior. I would do a couple of things: use the dealer locator on the website and find a dealer in your area that has them on display. Have in hand the serial number from the glass (usually upper right corner from interior). It should be a ten digit number beginning with a letter and then 16..., 17...,18.. (the year of manufacture). Have a magnifying glass and a step stool and the easiest thing to do is to read to someone else to transcribe and then have them read it back. This will give Marvin "all" the information on your window(s) and a shade can be ordered. You will need a new screen if you now have one as it is a different size. The interior wood of the shade will match your window and there are fifteen different fabric choices (including some blackout) to choose from. These are all Hunter-Douglas quality fabrics. The shades are not inexpensive but competitive with after market choices without some of their drawbacks like you are experiencing. Good luck and let us know if this works....See Morehelenill
