I think the mirror is very nice and appropriate for your bath. Frameless mirrors look a bit dated now, imo.

I wouldn't put a frameless mirror there. You've got an Arts & Crafts look going with the fixture & the cabinet.

How about something like this:

My concern with using a mirror with a wooden frame (which was my original thought) is matching the finish on the mirror to the cabinet. Marti8a, the link you provided looks pretty close, but as I've been looking in town, so much has just looked wrong. Too "espresso" or actually painted white. I'm also concerned about the wood species. The vanity is QS oak. Would using a walnut or maple or even plain sawn oak mirror there be a faux pas?

Finally, price is a concern. I need four mirrors for the three bathrooms, and honestly ladies, I'm scraping the bottom the bucket! ;-) At $350 a pop, we will be eating mac and cheese for a long, long while.

BUT, I value both your input. Thanks so much for responding. You are giving me food for thought.

Oh, don't know if it makes any difference, but the rest of the fixtures in here are chrome. Yes, I'm mixing metals. We used chrome throughout the house because on plumbing and bathroom hardware because we wanted to be authentic to the period (in our blasphemous way) and that is what was normally found in craftsman houses in the 1920s.

BTW, I know, I'm a mess and this post sounds extremely neurotic! I'm looking forward to the weekend to decompress.

Another question, on the frameless, in this bathroom and others, does it make a difference if it is a frameless mirror that covers the entire wall or something more like this (without the tilt)?

auntjen, Thank you! I sure hope so. The lights went up yesterday and it was a bit dark with the tiffany glass in the light fixture, but that is another hurdle for another day.

I wouldn't mix woods, especially maple & oak. I might put regular oak with it though. I know what you mean about matching wood color.

In one bathroom here, I found a picture frame I liked & had a mirror cut & put in it. It wasn't expensive at all. Would that work for you?

My feeling exactly on mixing woods, although I agree, I might be able to get away with regular oak. Had I had my wits about me, I would have had our cabinet maker make the bathroom mirrors for the other rooms also. He made recessed medicine cabinets for the master...

Ah, the saga of my cabinets. ;-) To make a long story very short, it is definitely too late if I want them yet this year. And, DH might very well divorce me if I said I wanted to go that route. LOL! But... I might put a "temporary" mirror in there and replace it next year when we have cabinetry built for our as of yet, unfinished basement. Definitely an option. I could also get some QS oak and do it myself. Can't be too difficult if you can use a miter saw and then I could stain them to match.

I have a similar set up - the vanity is cherry, my light fixture is ORB, and my faucet is chrome (I have really hard water and was worried how ORB would hold up). I think it looks good - here's kind of how it all goes together.

jay, if you can find someone to build a frame for the mirrors, you might want to have some made to your specific size. Example, our 1/4" thick 1" beveled size 40" X 30", was only $121.00. This was for over overmantle on our fireplace.

That's just another option that would be less expensive.

Also, I don't know if you have a HD nearby, but they have a huge selection of nice mirrors with very reasonable prices. A friend of mine just acquired one that was marked down 50%. So you might want to check them out also.

Hi Jaymie - thanks! It's a Murray Feiss mirror and it's called Burnished Bronze or something like that. It really looks like Dark Brown with a hint of lighter bronze at the edges. It's part of their Modern Country line.

My first thought was close to Marti's. We bought extra full length matching wood when we got our cabinets. Maybe they have them in stock rather than asking them to make the frames, you could, or even a simple shelf for the mirror to set on, what ever size you like. Should save you lots of money, then you can change to what ever you find later, when your piggy bank has been feed.
Also thinking, you have alot of cabinets, the different detail in each bath is fun. I think the mirrors you show are both great, and if you haven't already, you can select copper or brass faucets to go with the mirror detail.
Have you tried LED bulbs? Very expensive at purchase but said to be $ low $ energy $ and last a very long time.

miller88, Thank you for the information on your mirror. It sounds like the one I picture above which has copper showing through the weathered finish at the edges. Yours looks beautiful.

brutuses, Having the frames made is a really good idea. I need to check with my GC to see where he would suggest sourcing the mirror itself from. I'll also run by HD today. I hadn't looked at the selection there yet. Thanks for the tip.

bodica, I'm sure I could get more wood from our cabinet maker. He gave me some extra when we picked up the cabinets to make a doorbell cover. It's just a matter of getting over to his shop and obtaining the material. None of this stuff needs to be done right now. I'm sure that patience after we are technically done with the house will be as important as patience was when we were building. There is a desire to have everything complete the day you move in, but that is obviously unrealistic. We already have a chrome faucet specified for that bath. It's been so long since I choose it, I hope it still fits the room. We will know in a week or so. I have not tried LED bulbs before. Can you get them at HD? I can check today.

Well.... I bought the mirror. I figured if I didn't like it here, I would sell it or use it somewhere else. It wasn't too pricey. So far (although it is just set in place), I think I like it. It coordinates well with the light fixture and I like it with the wall color. (Please, ignore all the other "junk" in the room. They are working on finishing the hardwood floors, so the bathroom has become a dumping ground for doors and other odds and ends)

Oh, and here are the doorknobs... I think it coordinates well with them also.

sarschlos_remodeler, Thank you. The color on the walls is SW Studio Blue Green and the tile Interceramic Kashmir Stone Mosaic. The cabinet is custom QS white oak with Miniwax Red Oak stain. The granite is Tuscan Gold. I'm still trying to decide if the room is a little too dark with the art glass in the light fixture, but I'll withhold final judgment until all the pieces are put together.

Thanks for the details. On the light issue, since it's a powder room only, I wouldn't worry about it. Powder rooms can be a bit dark and moody. In fact, I think they tend to look better that way.

When I first saw the mirror at the top of your post, I thought, "Perfect!" After seeing it below in the room, I think you really nailed the choice! Looks great with all the other features in the room IMHO. I think wood wouldn't have nearly the appeal that this one has.
And miller--your bath is beautiful. Love how you picked up the dark with your accent pieces. Absolutely right!

I think you made a superb choice!! I love the way the room looks, and it fits in well with the other metals and finish colors. We had all of our unframed standard wall mirrors framed out with picture frame molding when we built our house, and I've never regretted it. They used stain grade wood, so we could paint or stain depending on the style of each bathroom, and since there were 5 to do, it saved us a lot of $$ doing it that way.
