Sad day, I had to put down my 20+ year old crock pot...
Comments (9)I did go with the Fagor a few months ago and love it - the browning feature is great although most meats in the quantities you would be slo or pressure cooking have to be done in two batches. I still find it nicer to have a plate to wash over a separate skillet though :) And - My larger pressure cookers are stored in the basement and not completely handy when I want them. On days when I'm not especially organized (and I have a few of those) when I've wanted dinner ready at dinner time and was going to be gone in the late afternoon - but had not started slow cooking something earlier in the day...I've set it to pressure cook a few minutes, then reset to slo cook on low till time I wanted to serve....tenderizing inexpensive meats further than the 'keep warm' feature would do. But it is only 6 qt. Nesco makes an identical product - I went with the Fagor because its an inch smaller in diameter, allowing it to be stored on a 12" kitchen cupboard shelf, with the door closed :) I was looking for a replacement to my 70's era West Bend bean pot style crockpot that had been a faithful kitchen help most of my adult life and got distracted by the multi-function appliance. What I kept finding in reviews is that the newer slow cookers cook hotter than the old, surprising some of us who were used to the really slow cooking....See MoreHow to paint old varnished pine trim?
Comments (2)The process you are using is pretty much the correct one, though I usually pick BIN for priming when the wood is previously stained and varnished because it sticks the best. Spraying will help you get there in fewer coats for sure and the end result should be brush mark free, but spraying is generally not something a novice painter can just pick up and learn in a few hours. It takes a lot of practice and some good hand eye coordination. I prefer to use an airless because it's faster, but if you want to mess around with spraying, I would suggest trying to rent a HVLP unit because it's slower. Another thing you can try to speed things up is applying the paint with a little 4" roller and then brushing it out. This just saves you some time dipping your brush into the paint so much. The roller helps to get the paint on faster....See MoreHelp! I put varnish on top of polyurethane
Comments (4)Don't panic, polyurethane finish is also a varnish. The beauty of varnish is that it should have more than one coat anyway. I'm not familiar with the P&L varnish. Is it thinned with turps or paint thinner? Varnish should be sanded lightly between coats any way. Anything finer than 150 will be OK, I use P-350 between varnish coats. Varnish is just resin dissolved in oil. Poly is just a synthetic resin, I don't know which resin P&L uses. It's probably on the label. The only question is do you prefer gloss, semi-, or matte? Just let each coat get hard before re-coating. I give mine 4-10 days. But I use "old-timey" varnishes. read label...See MoreHad to put our old bulldog down...
Comments (58)I am so sorry...my eyes teared up over this as we also have an English Bulldog and know of the shorter life spans...and that perpetually "sad" face. So difficult to have to make this decision. I wish you the strength to get through the best you can....See MoreUser
