Finish for butcher block front door?

Chantico

Our new front door is select alder solid butcher block. It arrives tomorrow, and is finished but not sealed. (Meaning, no stain or sealant of any kind has ever been applied.)

The manufacturer suggests sealing with polyeurethane but I would prefer an oil finish that would not need to be stripped to be re-sealed in the future. Would something like Marine Spar Varnish or Penefin Marine Oil Finish provide enough protection?

(I'm comfortable with needing to re-seal it every couple of years like I do with my deck where I can wash it, then apply the new coat right over the old without sanding and stripping).

Is there anything about the butcher block construction that would require a hard surface finish like polyeurethane over a penetration oil finish?

Thanks for any advice you can give!
