What pretty glass!! Could definitely be used in stained glass AND mosaics! Are you looking for someone to take it? I'd sure be interested!

Oh, if I lived near you, I'd be at your front door in a hurry. I think CALAMITY, or someone, has used this very successfully in a mosaic. WONDERFUL glass. Why doncha start mosaicing w/it?? I can see it used to cover a light fixture of some sort cuz amber glass is wonderful over light. Think about it - join us, make something w/it.

I know nothing about glass, but the glass shop said it was rare glass. So I asked them if they sold the extra pieces in their shop and they said no. So why would they be keeping the glass and not selling it. I have to dig further into this.

I was thinking someone might need some of it to replace some that is broken and perhaps they can't find any to replace theirs.

I wonder if it is tempered or not - if it is not - couldn't you get cut on it easily? It is large 70 inches long - so kind of precarious to handle.

I just don't have the time right now - but would love to do mosaic some time in the future. If I try to keep it DH will surely have a cow as he wants to get rid of anything unless it is worth dollars. If you used it in mosaicing - would you just hit it with a hammer and let it break apart and then put the pieces in a mosaic? That's why I thought of stained glass - because they score the glass and then it breaks more evenly. I guess the same could be done with the mosaic - score it instead of breaking it.

Well I might call a stained glass shop near me today to see what they say.

It might not be called bubble glass and maybe it is amber rather than gold - shows what I know.

Been remodling my house for three years now and just about finished - perhaps then I will have some more time for some fun stuff like you all do. Have always wanted to mosaicing. Just have a few more doors to paint and stome quarterround molding and two closet doors to stain. Maybe it is in my future. Oh and two trash to treasure headboards - then that is it (sure I believe that).

IF you even have an INKLIN' of getting into mosaics in the future - don't care if it's ten years from now - DO NOT get rid of this glass. Have a knock-down-drag-out fight w/DH and negotiate something w/him to just have a calf instead of a cow and K.E.E.P. this glass. BELIEVE me, you w/hate yourself and kick yourself, scream at yourself, etc. - get my point? This is WONDERFUL glass. You can score/break or just nip it w/the wheeled nippers. Most of us on this forum w/LOVE to have that glass. My first project, if I got my hands on it, w/be to use in candle shelters or glass on glass. I used amber glass in my candle shelters, but it's flat - doesn't have that wonderful texture your glass has. K----E-----E-----P it!

Hey Spring: This globe is the same glass as yours, just diff color, and the mirror amber glass is diff texture but same era....

You can tell him it IS worth $$. Go to a stained glass shop & price glass per foot, it isn't cheap, so you can tell him you're just banking it until you're ready to do a project. You'll save by not having to go out and buy what you had but trashed!

slowmedown-can you show me what a candle shelter looks like that sounds intriguing. There used to be a lady up in my little town who taught stained glass but her phone wasn't operating. I may have to go up to her house and talk with her. Also what is glass on glass - is that where you take a mirrior and glue some mosaic pieces onto it? (uh, uh, if I start asking questions, that might mean I am in big trouble).

calamity j, you are very talented. Thank you for taking the time to post you creations. Your globe is beautiful and so is your mirror. When you say mirror though, is this something you can see yourself in or you placed the pieces over a mirror?

I was thinking I could do some sort of a frame around a mirror with the gold glass. See this little table in my entry just screams for a mirror above it. And I was actually looking to purchase a mirror.

Oh, in NT's words, WHOA, HOLD THE PHONE. Your DH sounds like NT's in the beginning. You're gonna have to SHOW that man what you can do w/that glass. Right now is a good time to take it to your glass company and get them to cut it down to storage sizes. Good GRIEF, it w/fit behind a dresser or chest and he'll NEVER SEE it until you're using it on very beautiful things. That table also screams to be mosaiced. Don't BUY anything until you get into this obsession that it w/become once you nip/glue/grout your first piece. Get one at a TS and mosaic it to go above the table, then mosaic a candle shelter to join a nice little arrangement to put on the table etc. A candle shelter is anything made of glass that you can put a candle inside. DO NOT GIVE IN on keeping this glass. You have a very valuable piece of glass that you w/find all kinds of uses for once you start. GOG - lots of artists w/show you their work here, but it's taking an old window or anything w/glass already in it and gluing transparent colored glass over it to make a wonderful piece of art. I have several pieces waiting in line TBM, just can't get there yet. Here's a pic of just one example. There are several more shots in the album of ones I've made for gifts.

Yep - you're in big trouble already, just THINKIN' about mosaics, but I'll guarantee you, it'll be the bestest, most fun, most rewarding, most satisfying, most enjoyable trouble you'll ever get into. I dare you - take a little time out of your busy schedule, and do one teensy piece and you'll see what I mean.

slowmedown, you are truly an artist and very, very talented - and also addicted I would say. DH calls me a plant-a-holic - just want I need is another addiction. But it definitely looks like a lot of fun and gets the creative juices going - and with winter coming on - what better time to start something you can do indoors or out on the back porch.

For my mirror, in my mind's eye, I was thinking of scoring the glass in different size squares and oblong pieces and glueing them around the perimeter of a mirror. The glass pieces would be like a frame, leaving a portion of the mirror visible in the center. Kind of an arts and crafts type style - using only the amber glass and no other colors - simple and understated.

Here is a picture of what I am thinking of - I didn't draw the whole pattern in because it would take too long but you see what I mean. Perhaps a thin wood frame around the perimeter to hold it all together. And I would want the glue to be clear for better reflective qualities. What do you think?

H-m-m-m-m - sounds wonderful! Course, I LOVE Arts and Crafts, and Art Deco. You've got a great start by having the idea and committed it to paper. GO FOR IT!

Thank you for the compliment. I just want you to save that glass so bad, and I KNOW once you get into this hobby, you'll be glad you did. I have an Unsinkable Molly Brown attitude - whatever I want to do, I find a way to do it, and try to impart that into whoever is going through a troublesome period. Don't mean to cause trouble between you and DH, but there's ways to play those guys like violins - and once they SEE what you're doing, they'll show it off to your friends, and take part of the credit. Trust me on this - been there done that. Addicted you say - last winter I worked in my garage w/two space heaters going, and decided I couldn't handle that situation, so had my handyman put in central heat/air in the garage and my workshop so I can work year-round. That's how addicted I am. Your design is wonderful. WHATEVER you dream of doing, you can make it happen. Get that glass cut into workable sizes and buy a few tools and you're on your way to a wonderful ride. Yeeehaaawww!

It looks like Kokomo Wavolite, I have it in red, green and a few other colors. Only found out what it was last week.
Kokomo still make it, all the sheets I have are thicker than most stained glass.
