i think you did a great job with the stripes! as long as they don't clash with the blue tile at the top of the tub, i say keep them. maybe try taking a picture of them from the place you took the original one of the plain yellow wall so we can see how they look with the tile?

I wish I could, but I was out in the hall when I took the first photo but the stripes are behind the door so couldn't do that. I asked dh if he would take the door off, but he gave me the look, so I guess I can't take another photo of the whole room.

I talked dh into taking off the door & took a lot more pics. A good friend thought squares would fit the room better than stripes. She thought color wash the blue on top of white in 12-14 inch squares. Dh thinks that will make the room too dark.

I thought stripes would visually raise the 7 foot ceiling.

Any more thoughts?

I think the stripes are great. You're right, it does raise the ceiling.

I'm sitting here waiting for paint to dry again, so thought I'd add a pic of the opposite wall which is now painted yellow.

Now that the triple light fixture and mirror are off the wall, the paint is a much more subdued color. Yesterday I was out with the paint samples looking for a picture and I noticed that the yellow wasn't as bright.

It might also be my monitor that makes that yellow in the first pics seem so canary yellow.

In any case, I am not going to paint stripes or other design on the wall over the counter. There will be a mirror and pictures and too many stripes might seem more like a cage than deco. Also, the door isn't square on the wall (imagine that) and there is only about an inch of wall space over the door and 6-7 inches beside the door. The stripes I put on there yesterday magnified the fact that the door or wall wasn't square and just looked unfinished rather than striped.

I really like your stripes and may attempt it. Can you tell me how you kept the paint from bleeding under the tape & do you have any photos of your finished room? The hardware you painted still looks gold to me. Is the painted part gold or silver?

melbelle, I'll have to take some pics. I kept the paint from bleeding by taping the wall, then I dipped my fingertip in the base color & ran it along the edge of the tape in a circular motion & kept it thin. Then any paint that goes under is going to match the base, and the next color sits on top. There were a few places where the tape had a little wrinkle & the next coat did go under, but it was really easy to just touch up with an artist brush.

The hardware does look nickel color. I'll take a picture of that too.

I don't know that these pics are any better than the first ones. I just can't get a wide enough shot to show much. I blotted myself out of the long mirror, lol. Wish I didn't have to keep the mirrors, but dh thinks they are just fine, so they stay. *sigh*
