I've had contractor installed Marvin Tilt-Pacs for over ten years. The sashes are sturdy with no glass seal problems. If you can afford it, get the dividers between the glass panes instead of applied grids, as applied grids are an inconvenience during cleaning. The sash tilt-in feature is hard to use. Marvin Tilt-Pac balance mechanisms and sash liners are a problem. After replacing a number of balance mechanisms, I find that the internal metal pulley frames fail (pot metal?). They just aren't strong enough for the spring tension. When they let go, the balance mechanism self-destructs from the spring load. More often than not, balance mechanism failure also breaks a piece out of the top of the plastic sash liner. Even if you DIY, repair parts are expensive, and time consumming. Marvin's warranty has been worthless. Marvin's current warranty on new products may have improved from what it was. Do your research, there may be better products out there. theodocius

As far as Tilt Pacs, Marvin makes the best i have scene. They will be pricey but you need to remember that it is a retro fit and a custom product and you will be touching nothing else in the home other than applying a new jamb liner and sash.I work for a company now that sells LePage windows and while i think they are really a great product at a excellent price point i do not come on here pushing them as i mainly try and just give advice from my own experience as asked. I am not as versed as oberon on the performance data of windows or glass but my knowledge comes more from practical experience of selling the product and listening to peoples positives and negatives on product and having dealt with the window manufacturers distributors and or service departments directly. That's my story and i am sticking to it.

I think the more recent comments are regarding...commenting, but in case it's helpful I will offer this: I have a cooktop over an oven. They are the same brand and manufacturer, and manufacturer-provided information states (and instructions indicate how) they can be placed one on top of the other. At least in my research, not all cooktops, could be placed over any oven. I did this nearly 20 years ago as a dual fuel 36" was (much) more expensive than installing two separate pieces. The top of my counter is at 36". And yes, the cabinet for the oven, that toekick area is about 2" shorter than the rest of my cabinets in order to accommodate the oven, and the distance required (by the manufacturer) from the bottom of the (gas) cooktop to the top of the installed (electric) oven. Our cabinet installer had to generate a custom piece of wood to accommodate this. So if your eye is running along the toekick, there is a clear and definite "hiccup" where the oven sits. Yes, the oven is low, and I am very short, so I have never been bothered by the lack of height in the oven placement. The biggest downside so far is 15 years in, when I needed to replace the cooktop. Challenge #1 and 2 was to find another compatible cooktop and oven combination that I could afford and liked, and more importantly, the cooktop had to fit in the existing hole in the quartz countertop. The new cooktop *just* squeezed in. Finding someone who would come out and enlarge the hole: 1) would have been probably nearly impossible given how busy everyone is these days; 2) they would have not been able to guarantee that they would have not broken the counter; and 3) it would have been a total mess to grind down two sides of a quartz counter in an existing kitchen. So I hope that story helps...someone. If I had it to do over again, I'd get a range, because it would have been easier to replace and there would have been many more choices. On a time crunch with our kids’ bath and trying to decide if i can mix Kingston Brushed Brass faucets (which will go better with our lighting) and Delta Champagne Bronze fixtures in the shower which will be behind a shower curtain. In the pic of your kitchen faucet and disposal button, you called the Delta finish Champagne Gold but you meant Champagne Bronze right? Thanks for your help! Anyone else use Kingston brushed brass with Kohler shower components in Vibrant Brushed Moderne Brass? Im wondering which one is a closer match, Kohler or Delta? I need something thats in stock and ready to ship so i cant wait for Brizo or California Faucets. Im also thinking of mixing the Kingston brushed brass fixtures in the vanity area with their polished brass in the shower behind the shower curtain. They dont have all the shower components we need in the brushed brass in stock. Would love anyone’s feedback..we decided to tack this on to a much more extensive reno and i dont have the luxury of going to showrooms to look for this part of the reno.
