I like option A best but I would put two comfy chairs there with a table and lamp in the corner. I am so jealous of your nice big room. I wish I had room for a seating area in my MB.

I like the comfy sitting area in the corner the best. It would give a cozy, welcoming impression for a bedroom instead of the desk being the first thing you see.

I like the A arrangement best. Why?
* I don't like desks in a MBR. To me they're a constant reminder that there's business and work yet to be done . . . and they're clutter collectors.
* I think that cozy reading areas are very warm and welcoming . . . and useful.

Now for a couple of suggestions. I hope you don't mind.
* the art work you want to hang over the bed is lovely but seems too big for that space. I think that it would overwhelm the two flanking windows AND make the entire wall look crowded. I'd use it on one of the side walls instead.
* hang a non-square piece of art over the bed instead. If it was my own house, I'd hang something simple, like a cross.
* move the tall plant to a corner, instead of it's mid-wall location.
* I know that you're not ready to discuss lamps yet, but when you do buy some new ones, make sure that they're the right height for reading and are 3-way lights.

BTW, I love your wall color, shutters and wood floor. You've got a lovely, peaceful mood going in there already!

One thing I have to tell you, is that I really like the red chair. It's an interesting color combo with your beautiful wall paint.

lynninnewmexico--I could put the large art on the wall to the right of the bed. Take a look at this pic, though, and tell me if it STILL seems too big or if you think a round mirror would be better. And yes, the tall plant may need to be moved.

parma42-- I have three of these red chairs (all slipcovers), I could bring one up from the LR and may try. I was planning an a more muted color (though I always say that and then buy red!)

I love the red chair too! It's perfect in that first pic.

Think that painting is way too big for the space above the headboard. I liked your original idea to hang the round mirror there.

That last picture with the mirror on the bed looks so serene. Just lovely.

Interesting story that I should add about the bird pic.

When my parents died, there wasn't much stuff to divide amoungst the kids. None of us wanted my parent's bird pic, but (because I was the excutor) it stayed in my house. I almost gave it away to a painting contractor who happened to mention that he liked it.

This painting never looked good against my crayon colored downstairs walls. After painting my master bedroom this muted color, however, I grabbed the painting on a lark to see how it would look. I was blown away. Viewed from a distance, against more muted walls, the painting is actually very nice.

A is my choice too. And while I have a desk in my master, you can only see it if you come all the way into the room. It also has a bulletin board above it. Romantical, yes??

Another vote for A. Mirror above the bed, barn pic is lovely, large pic on side wall. You mentioned you have three red chairs, could you use two in your comfy sitting area so you and DH can lounge together? The area to the right of the bed works well now. It's certainly coming together.

The wall color is ellen kennon's lichen. I don't think we have room for 2 chairs there, but will take a look. Right now, we use two of the red chairs in our LR and the third in a little sitting area off the kitchen (so it is not as if they aren't being used).

Thanks for the encouragement. The rooms in the rest of my house aren't large, so this master bedroom suite is a delight. The room has come a long way over the last few months. We got a lot of help from people on this site and Ellen Kennon. Here is the before. (We ditched the armoir, had floors put down, and I spent almost a week painting and painting and painting.)

Have to say....love that dreamy wall color and the mirror in between the 2 windows. I think your large painting would work on either wall. Good luck!

Please please please don't cover the yellow fabric chair! I love it! :) I think it would look good in the room.

I like the red chair with the painting you were going to put over the bed. I like how the red chair pulls out the little bit of red in the painting.

I would put the red chair and painting on the wall where you had the desk. Could you put two chairs and a table with the painting over top? Maybe it's too big. If that's true, then I'd put the red chair in the corner by the bed and the painting beside it on the side wall.

The whole room looks so much more relaxing than the bright blue it was painted before. Amazing what a color change does to the feel of a room.

Your wall color is wonderful. I also like arrangement A but I'm thinking there's not room for 2 chairs either. Love the mirror over the bed. The walls, floors, and shutters almost give the room an airy, beachy feel. I think the bird pic looks too large over the bed because it's dark and heavy looking. It would work better on a side wall and maybe even consider a lighter colored frame for it. Thanks for showing us the "before" pic. It's already a great transformation, looking good!

If I cover the yellow chair, it would be with a slip that I take off when this chair visits its fellow yellow DR chairs. I was thinking about a 3/4 length slip-- mostly to soften the edges in this part of the room. Do you think I need it -- or would a plant and a nice lamp do the trick?

A random thought is to take the red slip off one of my chairs and show the underlying tapestry fabric (from a different decorating era). I have another yard of this fabric and threw it over the chair to show you. My sense is that it is too black, burgundy, purplish -- right???

I'm ducking here, but.....Because I love to rearrange furniture, and also love to see biggest, prettiest thing first, (and your bed is sooo pretty!)would the bed *go on the wall you see as you enter?
Another random thought: I love shutters, but noticed in your inspiration pic how the sheers and full length panels brought the windows down to a better size.
* re. different arrangement: If the bed were on the opposite wall, you could place ( is there room with the bed?) a narrow library table/vanity between the windows with a mirror, photos or art over. Your yellow chair might fit under it?
I love the painting with its moody colors that go so well with your wall color, but can't see the fish pic with it.
As for the chairs, I'd have only one comfy one unless the two could sit together, or yellow one under a vanity/table?
I'd keep the fabrics soft and solid or tone on tone. Your room is very serene and a colored pattern would take away from this feel, IMO.
Oh, almost forgot to vote! A. and the mirror...after you try the other arrangement:>):>).

leahcate-- you are right that it makes sense to move the bed, but DH's plea is that we leave the bed where it is so that we have a pretty view out the large window (not shown). Our yard is tiny and the views from other angles aren't as nice.

You are right about the short shutters and I need to figure out what to do with them. Les also commented about them. I have severe allergies, so I limit the amount of cloth in the room, but this might be an area where an exception should be made.

Your observations regarding fabric make sense. I think this is why I don't like the black tapestry in this room. The colors should be simple and soft.

Ohhhh! Large window? View? If that doesn't include the sun waking you up with a jolt every morning( as mine does) I can see why you'd keep the bed there!
Gotcha on the allergies. A not-so-easy fix would( maybe) be to add another set of shutters under the windows with a fake ledge underneath. This would give the appearance of a longer window, if it's doable. I always have the big ideas with no idea how to accomplish it or if it's doable :>/
Okay, wait! I have another thought (uh oh). There was a thread on end tables or vanities as end table recently. Many( I do) use vanities as end tables. How about a small one to right of bed and hang/prop a mirror over the vanity and UNDER that shutter....big enough to sit just under the shutter. This would function to hide the large amount of wall space from ledge to floor. On the other side place a correct size print under that shutter, over end table. Your comfy chair could go in that corner.

I shouldn't enter into this discussion since you had specifically stated that the bed is to remain where it is, and you have a valid reason. Forgive me, but I just can't seem to help myself on this because I feel it so strongly. In terms of visual impact, the room just looks wrong with the bed against the window wall, and would be immeasurably improved if the bed were to face the doorway. I have a feeling that everything else would fall in place beautifully because of the logic and rightness of that arrangement. You've done the room beautifully and the colors are wonderful, but I just perceive this as a major flaw.

By the way, the tapestry fabric seems to me to coordinate quite well with the wall color. Strangely though, on the detail picture the colors look much brighter, whereas on the room picture the colors unfortunately look too drab. Fabric on the windows would really soften this room, although obviously your allergies would be a more important consideration.

Ingrid, no offense at all. And you are right, except that I married a view guy. He pointed out that his view when he woke (if I put the bed in the more logical place) would be down a corridor. In contrast, he adores watching the birds with the bed in its current place. So, having a happy hubbie (he doesn't ask for much) trumps out. In terms of the tapestry, there is something about it that doesn't work to me -- even though it has the green and golden brown of the room. I can't put my finger on it, but even with different colored pillows the black tapestry doesn't shine in this room. I just folded it up and put it away.

leahcate-- hmm let me think about this. your suggestion might work.

If you made it a very narrow( 12" deep, say)table your yellow chair could stay approx. where it is, acting as a chair for the vanity/desk/end table. Hard to figure all this long distance.
