Black iron chandy for my house?

I'm second guessing my color choices (again). I posted when I was trying to decide on the color of current rods and it was the consensus that black would give the room a little more pop since I have a lot of brown going on. I'm looking at black light fixtures now and want to make sure it won't be too much black. It will definitely stand out more than my current ones. I also have alot of white accent pieces, so will the black fixture look okay in here? I will need to find a fan and foyer light that kind of match since you can see all three of them in the room.

Standing in the kitchen, you can see the dining room light, ceiling fan, and foyer light in the upper right corner.

Standing at the other end of the house looking back towards the kitchen.

I've been looking at this one from PB. I would use the white lamp shades instead of these:

This one is also interesting. The website doesn't give the measurements, so I would have to find out if I decided I like it over the other one.

I don't have a clue what style would work for the foyer. Do any of these work?

Looking at your home and the wall color it looks a lot like mine and I used black wrought iron for all my fixtures, except where I chose to use a *few* crystal chandeliers. What's nice about the black is it does stand out, adding a bit of drama. You might also want to use some black in your decor. Black lampshades in the other rooms to tie it all together, for instance. ;o)

Are you planning to change the fan? With all three of those under the same ceiling area, I would want them to be similar.

The first photo isn't much different from your current fixture -- not sure it would be worth changing for that little difference. I do like your second dining fixture -- who makes that one? I could see it with the first foyer fixture. The second foyer one seems a bit too fussy and would be a lot less light -- better suited to a group of pendants situation I would think. Same for #3. I just do not like the chicken wire ones or the thought of dusting them, but they are different.

What a lovely area! I wish I could have a glass of tea and sit with you in that pretty green garden swing and talk JUNK! It's so inviting! I LOVE the way you used the banisters! I had a chandelier on my patio...not as pretty as yours...but I had to take it down because my TALL son always hit his head on it! My daughter and her family and my son spend a LOT of summer evenings on our patio enjoying things from the grill...so I want it to be as welcoming as it can be so they'll continue to come! He teased me that visiting hubby on the patio was going to become a headache if I didn't move the chandi! LOL

We could run CSST here for the entire length. However it's on the outside of the house so a giant yellow run would be pretty annoying to look at right? I understand how to work from the meter out to the load, but I wanted to do the entire new black iron run, except for that last tiny bit to the meter, then I could pressure test the new run before connecting it in. Is this silly or proper? Do you ever see people using CSST to connect a meter to a run of black iron? Wouldn't that be appropriate here? I built the entire new run, pressure test it and then use a short piece of CSST to connect them? Or should the last bit be done with a right/left type fitting? I am not understanding yet what the professionals choice would be here, just to build out from the meter to the load and check for leaks with soapy water?

Thanks for all the help. I knew I could count you on you guys. That chandy #1 is on eBay and ending soon. And as if that is not enough pressure, we are leaving for vacation in a couple of days, so I've been crazy packing. I'm in the upstairs hallway ironing and looking at the existing light, then I get out the measuring tape, take some measurements, go back to ironing, ask my dh for his opinion and he nearly freaks out because apparantly men cannot multi task and think of home decorating at the same time as trying to pack for a 16 day trip. Go figure. Ok, my answers: "I would be interested in knowing if you are planning on painting your railing. I would love to do something with mine. Just can't figure out what. " Jerseygirl. I really would like to have the railing darker, however after much discussion with others, it really is a dark stain that would give me what I want and this wood is not the right wood to stain dark. Someone suggested if I painted it a dark brown it could end up looking cheap. The railings will be a brighter white. It was love at first sight, and inspired the entire kitchen. The wall color is a Valspar color, Siene. The darker color behind the range and fireplace wall is Italian Leather, from the same paint chip. "I like #1 better. It is modern, but could be a vintage modern as well. What diameter is it? Hi again. Sorry for the delay. Holiday madness struck! I ended up using the clear torpedos for a couple of reasons. The drippy tipped ones won't work with shades when I get them. And they were just the easiest to go with when I had a thousand other things to do to prepare for the parties I was hosting that week. DH installed a dimmer, and we were good to go! I can't explain how luxurious and grown-up I feel now with the light fixtures completed in this room! ( We'll ignore the rest of the bare bulbs hanging out around the house still. One room at a time!) Now all I need to do is get some sort of little backsplash on the bar area and find a couple more antique oak chairs and that room is DONE! Hydrangea--those clear bulbs in the photos above do have a bluish tint to them. They were those clean, bright white kind of bulbs that are tinted blue. Took them back! A2--I did see and posted there last night. Not sure I had much to add other than I'm so glad your ovens were quickly and easily fixed without much fuss! Here's how it looks with the remainder of the bulbs in place. Thanks again everyone for the encouragement and opinions!

Patty cakes - I'd love to see the black in a real home if you have any pictures!

Yes, I will change the fan also. It's hard to tell, but the current fixtures have a pink tone to them that I don't like. I found the 2nd chandy at Lighting Direct.

If you like the current fixtures aside from the finish, spray paint will transform your existing chandelier to "black iron" easily and cheaply. We have one that was "verdigris" finish; spray painted it matte black several years ago and it still looks great. You *do* need to take it down to paint it, though.

lazydaisynot - I actually wouldn't mind replacing the light fixtures, but I did wonder about painting the fan. I've seen them do it on tv, but I don't know how you keep from getting the paint in the all the little holes.

LOL. I never even noticed it wasn't lined up with the arch. I had to go in the kitchen and look at it. I'll keep that in mind when I hang the new one. I'm trying to understand what you're suggesting for the entry way. Are you saying to hang it lower?

no wonder you were confused. when looking at the third picture above - it looked like your living space was separated from the foyer by a 2/3 wall, but re-looking at the other photos i see this is not a 2/3 wall but rather a very high ledge on the far side of the foyer... now i get it...

i would still recommend bringing that fixture down - as long as the bottom of the fixture is approx. 7 ft off the ground and clears the door swing i think it will tie in to the space better. sorry for the confusion.
