StepDogs
I'm new to this forum but want to share a very positive experience that probably only applies to a few people, but that has been an amazing help to me.
The situation: I'm becoming a partner to a fabulous woman who has two teen sons and two dogs. She and I have spent many hours and invested in professional help to do the best we can for the boys and ourselves in this transition in all our lives. This is going quite well, and we're hopeful it will work beautifully. What I wanted to talk about here, though, is dogs. I have never lived in a house with dogs before in my life, but I like challenges, so I've been walking the dogs in the mornings. These dogs were not very well-behaved. They pulled so hard on leashes that the teen boys could not walk them at all; one was aggressive toward strange men, the other was aggressive toward other dogs. It was draining to walk them, physically and emotionally.
The recommendtion: Then we saw an episode of the Dog Whisperer (Cesar Milan) on TV. My partner took the initiative to read his book and then began to search for local trainers who had learned his methods. Eventually she found Sherry Boyer at

This is in the San Jose area of California, but they can probably put you in touch with others.
Anyway, what I want to tell you is that with ONE DAY of training my life as a stepdog walker was transformed beyond my wildest dreams. I'm a scientist by training, so I'm as skeptical as they come, but please, if you have this kind of problem, invest in a dog whisperer. It's transformational.
As I said, I'm new to this forum, so if this is considered an advertisement, I'll gladly reword it to get the message out.
