Thanks to all the help IÂve received from this forum, we made all of our decisions, chose a great PB and they have broken ground!

This pool is intended first and foremost for our dogs, to help them maintain their athletic physical condition (they compete at agility trials), and for their enjoyment. We also wanted to be able to swim laps. The surfaces of the plaster, deck, and coping were all selected to be gentle on our dogÂs feet, to minimize pad abrasions.

Our builder is Flamingo Custom Pools. Although it is early in the process, I have been more than impressed with the professionalism of Rich and Jane Blank, and of their hardworking subcontractors. Will post more pics soon!

Tresw, thanks for the compliments. We absolutely LOVE the way the pool has come out. We now also have our SWG hooked up and I already love it, I was going through a lot of bleach to keep the chlorine levels up. I finally just turned the bubblers off to send more flow to the waterfall. If I hold my hand over two of the bubblers, the 3rd one will break the surface, but we really don't miss having them at all. They were a free add-on anyways for us. Womanowned, I passed your compliments onto our builder, thanks! A few comments about color. I now understand better why folks have trouble describing, and picking, colors, because it is a very dynamic thing. The color seems to change constantly with the lighting conditions. But we absolutely LOVE the Blue Granite. The majority of the time, the color is kind of an aqua-marine blue that is really neat. I can't say however that there aren't times where I can detect a touch of green (just a hint) if the clouds and sun are right. Other times it looks almost icy blue. It really changes a lot, but it looks very natural with what we have around the pool. The green you see in the fill photos above is all due to having green fill water (yum!). Within days of having chemicals and filtering, all of that green was gone. We saw several Aqua Blue pools, and they really did look wildly BLUE, and in the end with our natural looking pool, we felt teh blue granite was better, and we are very happy with it. As far as the Abalone shells, yes we did add them, and it was money WELL spent. They are really, really cool looking, especially when the sun is shining directly on the water. They look like diamonds on the floor. VERY cool effect. I just started building the shade structure, I'll some pictures as I go, but so far so good.

Hey Janet - BEAUTIFUL pool. I'm glad to see it came in just right for you guys. I'm also in Cypress. Actually, our home is up closer to Tomball (2920 and Cypress Rosehill area), but my law firm is near Jones and Grant. I just had my FIRST meeting with a PB tonight, and we're excited, but COMPLETELY overwhelmed. Do you mind giving me the full name of your PB? If you had a really good experience, I'd love to speak to them and get a bid. I'd to get at least 4 or 5 bids before I pick a PB. My wife and I have an interesting situation in that we have a LOT of room in the back yard (we are on 4/5 acre lot in the forest), but we have two massive trees that we want to work around AND build an appx 800 sq foot outdoor living room/kitchen/bar. We need JUST the right PB to make our pool integrate with our house, our lot, and our forest. We really want to do this right, and it looks like your PB did a great job! (Although I'm very impressed at your design work!)

Can highly recommend Best Backyard Pools of Houston for anyone considering a pool builder in Houston. Not only did Kathy do a great job building the pool in an amazing time frame, 20 days from first dig to water in the pool, her response time to resolve post completion issues has been equally impressive. I have had a few issues come up, none of which were Kathy's fault but she responded immediately by phone or email and had the necessary tradespeople out within a day to resolve the problem, fantastic service.

Rich is a awesome pool builder.
I've known him from back in the early 90's. He's always been a stand up guy and businessman. I know he'll make you proud.
I'm sure the dog's will be HAPPY too!!! SE Texas is a great place to be a dog and have a pool.
My wife can tell you where there's couple of fish dogs free to any home, it's really a shame that they're mine, LOL!!!

and fish dogs too!!!
Jane's backyard is typical of most SE Texas backyards.
What did you think, we all live in the desert with the sagebrush and tumbleweeds???
I'll have to post some pic's of our trees and my wet mutts soon!!!

Where are the steps so the dogs can get out?

Why are the line trenches so shallow? They should be at least 15" down from the top of the pipes.

Scott, the trenches are deeper than they look - I shot from above. The pool has a 5' x 10' baja shelf as the first step in a large set of stairs. There is also a step next to the bench on the other end for the dogs to get out. I only wanted one way to get out on each end because the pool is for the dog's exercise. My dog friends have warned me that if you provide too many ways out, some dogs will retrieve the thrown ball or bumper, then exit the pool and deliver it to you on land, rather than retrieve it then swim the length of the pool back. Here is a photo of the stairs and bench with exit step.

Ah, there they are! You might consider a high contrast tile line on the shallow steps. Dogs are color blind. The high contrast will encourage them to use the shallow steps and not even realize the deep swim out.

Here's our tile and coping.

The decks have been poured (Spray Deck will be done later)and the Pebblesheen is underway.

nice, really like the tile. is that the Escalante Blue by chance? if so, we selected that as well and the plant was completely out, even in las vegas and houston. we live in north texas. we decided to go with Mojave Aqua instead. we liked that really well. aqua blue is a great color. it came down to blue granite and aqua for us but blue granite won out. it's a great pool! won't be long now.

Looks Great. Any pictures of the Aqua Blue PebbleSheen after everything is hopefully working well? We are about to start our own project in Friendswood.
