BM is moving to Alabama.

She moved back here for TWO days. TWO. The guy who kicked her car window in was beating her and apparently he was NOT recovering but rather a full blown addict. She was doing meth and shooting coke while in baimbridge.....surprise surprise.

She told us she was moving back here but when she got here her EX (Nat, the one who choked her) wouldn't have her back. So now she has decided to go BACK to the guy who kicked her window in and move to Mobile Alabama with him.

Like the idiots we are we had already told the girls she was moving back to our town. Now we have to tell them she has already moved again except this time she's even farther away.

I have I ever mentioned that I hate this woman?

She does not sound like someone who is currently clean and sober to put up with all this drama. My opinion is she is probably using and having her as far away from the girls as possible is a blessing in disguise!

I'm so sorry your girls's mother is such a mess! How can they possibly understand that she's "sick" but also not "blameless"? Such a tightrope for you and such confusion and pain for them...

But probably for the best if she stays far, far away...

I live in Huntsville and visited Dutton once. The elevation was higher than Huntsville so it was much cooler and breezy, while back home in the valley we were sweltering. You will enjoy it. The only things you won't be able to grow well are lilacs and tulips...they will be annuals there. The soil is heavy clay and will need lots of compost to aerate it, but once prepared will grow things well. If you plant Rhodos or Azaleas, plant very high and mulch around the root ball, as they will choke to death planted in heavy soil. This is true of many plants, as drainage is poor and winter is rainy. Many plants, like lavender and thyme, do better in pots. Our temps usually go from 20s in winter and 100s in summer, though 0 and snow happens now and then. You will be within easy driving distance to some world class nurseries, especially in Winchester, Tn. Good luck!

Dora, Having grown up in UCLA(Upper Corner of Lower Alabama), I can tell you that most of the black walnuts you'll encounter there are not much to write home about. If you want a really good one for nut production, I'd recommend that you plant some good, grafted, named-variety BWs, like Thomas Myers, Daniels, or Emma Kay. See linked nursery below - your best source. Apples: Jennifer's recommendations follow those of the Extension service for low-chill selections - though I don't know how well C.Strawberry or Cinnamon Spice will do down there. MonArk is a great early-season apple that will do fantastic for you - good for eating out-of-hand, cooking, and unlike most early apples, it will keep for 6-8 weeks under refrigeration. Centennial apple-crab works well down there, and is primo quality. Callaway crab, an ornamental, is a favorite in my family for eating out-of-hand; guess it'd make good jelly, too - but we eat 'em as fast as they get ripe - it's a heavy producer of big clusters of 1-1.5" tasty little crabapples. There's a lady, Joyce Neighbors, in Lay Springs,AL, who has been collecting Old Southern Apples(as well as more contemporary varieties) for decades; she's scaling back on her operation(she's 80), but would still be a good source of real-world information, and she's still going to be grafting a few trees every year; could be your best source for apple trees. First of all, I strongly suggest that you visit the Alabama Forum and get to know some of the good folks in there. You'll need to prepare yourself for the huge differences you'll discover about living in the deep South. Don't worry, once you get used to the fire ants and sand gnats, you'll love it! To answer your questions, organic gardening will be no more difficult for you in that location than anywhere else. Be sure to make a call or visit to your local extension office after you get settled (or as soon as you unpack). And yes, you will be planting very different types of plants...as well as leaving behind some of the things you are used to. As I used to say to a number of my clients when I lived in SC, "you ain't in Ohio anymore!" It seemed like most of Ohio had moved to coastal SC, lol. I'll look for you in the Alabama Forum. Kenzie you have the perfect kitchen for hand-painting kitchen cabinets. You are going to be amazed at the improvement if you follow Christopher's directions. Just don't skip any steps and take your time :). You will see a little grain since your cabinets are oak, but that helps eliminate the look of brush marks also. I am one of those people who don't mind seeing the grain of oak - at least they look like real wood. I have one question for Christoper: How does the BM Impervo and Advance compare to SW Pro-Classic as far as ease of applying?? My reason for asking is that I have used the Pro-Classic on a vanity and was very impressed with the quality of the finished product - just would like to know for future projects.

Good she is moving away in the current state she is in, which is obviously not clean & sober. Bad to Mobile, AL. My son's in school & working down there. I hate to think of her on the same roads as my kid...

Anyway, I really think it's for the best to have her far from the children. It would just be more heartache and confusion for them to have her around.

Very sad.

Thanks for the sympathy. I could possibly look at this as a positive if I didn't think she'd be right back with her tail between her legs a month from now. It's the in and out that is causing the girl's so much pain. If she'd just stay gone they would eventually heal but the wounds keep getting ripped back open.

Why tell them when she is is town? Get court order for no visitation or supervised when proving attempt at sobriety. Less mixed messages for the girls if she isn't there and can't waltz in and out of their lives.

Lane- We arn't telling the girls anything anymore. We had to learn the hardway. We also have told her don't tell them when she is in town. That way if she doesn't stop by they arn't crushed.
