Child safety with casement windows

Hi,

I just did 6 full frame replacements in my solid brick house using Anderson 400 series casement windows from Home Depot. These are large 5-6 feet wide by 4-5 feet tall with two casements windows in the frame.

Has anyone thought of a good way to make it child safe. Two are these are in upstairs kids bedrooms. I've seen the expandable bars which are ugly and impede the beautiful green view.

I am considering thick pieces of plexiglass about a foot tall to attach between the screen and the actual glass. This will provide a barrier but also be transparent.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Corey
