gunite, vinyl or fiberglass???
Comments (19)quote" and will heat it again next week for spring break. "quote I'm incredibly jealous. This is the first spring break in as long as I can remember that I haven't started heating a pool on the Thursday prior. I guess I'm getting old, I don't feel like a multiple Grandpa but I am, I don't feel like I'm old but my baby is 14, and she's the only one left out of all of them that's still at home. The truth is that my wife says I'm the biggest kid of the bunch. My business and my hobbies keep me young at heart. I still love the thrill of speed and racing kids right up until that millisecond before I hit the dirt, pavement, or the water, LOL!!! The morning after is when I feel my age, LMAO!!! quote" you said something to the effect of when you dive in whatever size pool it is, you get just as wet. "quote I don't remember the reply, but I'd feel reasonably certain that I probably followed it up with is that all you get in a larger pool is more elbow room. I've told pool buyers wanting a big pool with a small pool budget this for decades. Having big pools is like having children, if you wait until you can afford it, you'll never do it. Thanks for supporting the industry with your pool purchase. I'm sure the sweetness of pool ownership in Mississippi is AWESOME stuff. You guys enjoy the same great swim season we enjoy in SE Texas. Comments (9)There are some manufacturers who offer painted interiors and some who offer a laminate. I prefer the laminate but the colors are limited. You can paint vinyl on the inside however if you have a warranty issue and it is due to the paint, the factories have the right to deny the warranty claim because you modified their product. I really doubt painting the interior could cause a problem as long as you use paint made for vinyl and avoid anything with nasty chemicals like acetone. Funny thing is that many factories offer painted interiors and will warrant the window if you have them do it but will deny a warranty claim if you do it yourself. If that's an installed price on the Marvin, I'd go for it. To me, the jury is still out on Serious. They gained National attention when the bought Kensington Windows in bankruptcy and saved a lot of jobs. Even got a huge government contract out of it and a visit from the President and V.President. That doesn't equate to a first rate window or factory service. I'm not saying the aren't a fine company, it's just that I've been around the business long enough to take a wait and see attitude with situations like this. I don't recall where you live but if you are building to those specs, you may want to consider triple pane glass....See MoreReplacement Windows Wood, Vinyl or Fiberglass?
Comments (82)For what it is worth, I thought I'd circle back on what we chose to do in case it helps anyone else. We love our wood windows and I just wasn't sold on replacing them with fiberglass yet. After lots of research I found Clear Image Glass in Issaquah, WA. (not compensated for mentioning them) The majority of my windows were structurally sound, but with some foggy spots. After a thorough inspection, we decided that most just needed new sills. They are made with Alaskan Yellow Cedar (better for NW elements if choosing wood) and depending on location in house chose LOE 366 or 272. Weathervane is the original manufacturer and not in business anymore, so in the areas we were adding windows, they built custom windows to match our existing exactly. The few areas with rot were fixed. It has been almost a year and we are super pleased. We were even able to keep our existing kitchen windows! New sills were half the cost (or less, depended on window). Custom windows were higher than other bids, but was worth it. For us, we were really happy to keep wood and the charm. Here are my kitchen windows, painted with new sills....See MoreWindow Replacement Options (Vinyl or Fiberglass)
Comments (2)Plenty of other fiberglass windows outside of the Marvin line up. Some with far better thermal and air data. Sunrise makes a nice vinyl window that is available out there too....See MoreWindows on Washington Ltd
