How sad

SD is involved in an extra curricular sport with weekly games. One game this season is about an hour's drive away. Last night SD looked at the schedule, then a calendar, and said "Whew. I'm here for the far away game weekend." When I asked why that was a 'Whew' she said "Because I know my mom wouldn't drive me there."

How sad is that? First that she can't depend on her mom do anything that is inconvenient for her, and second that she knows it to be so true that she doesn't even bother to ask mom any more.

SD missed her best friend's b-day party 2 weeks ago because it was on a mom weekend and she knew her mom/SF wouldn't drive her the 15 minutes from her house to our neighborhood, so she didn't even ask. Mom overheard her telling BF she couldn't go, questioned her about it, and then said "If they come get you and bring you home you can go." BF's mom and I both felt guilty - she couldn't run get her because she had a party to oversee, and we were away for the whole day so I couldn't either. But WHY should we feel guilty?? How can that be expected of the party host? Why should I feel it my job on her mom's weekend?

Tonight practice ran late and mom was there to pick SD up for her EOW. I was there because I'm a coach. I had to bail at the end as I was about to pee my pants, so I told mom I was going to miss the brief wrap up talk with parents and took off for a bathroom. As I'm leaving I see mom walk back to her car, without listening to the info. Later SD calls to say 'mom was really mad practice ran late by 5 minutes.' Because it would have killed her to stay and get the info for Saturday's game?? Those 5 minutes of 'her' time are so important she had to make a point my walking off to start up the car? SD confirmed they rushed no where - it was just not what mom wanted.

How the hell can mom sleep at night? How can she call herself a 'great parent'? How does none of this register with her, but it does with her 13 year old daughter? Blows my mind . . .
