Stained Glass, Mosaics and my Work Area

It's about time I share some of the work(play!) I've learned to do over the past few months. Here's a link to the album I've created. I'm not sure if I did this correctly so could someone please check if the link work and post back here? And if I didn't do it correctly, please someone tell me how :-)

Y'all are all so sweet to share your ideas and work with one another. I figured it's about time I come out of lurksville :-)

The work/play area was built by my DH - still have a couple of finishing touches to add but I'm so very proud and appreciative of him that I just had to share!

Yes, unfortunately snapfish is goofy like that... is there a better site to put them on that doesn't require an account?

Thanks so much... that's exactly what I want... I love to look at others work and the tutorials will be well studied, since I still feel like a beginner. Haven't learned the art of cutting stain glass yet. I'm still on the tile saw with tiles...lol. Another great way to find mosaic links is to check out other blogs and the links they follow..it's lots of fun...thanks again, Dottie

I am not an authority by any means. From what I understand, stained glass is the type of glass used to fuse glass in a kiln. The only warning I've heard from the fused glass studio where I took classes is that, when you are fusing two different pieces of stained glass together, they should be the same COE. So if you are planning to fire your glass in a kiln, you wouldn't try to fuse a piece of Bullseye (90 COE) to a piece of Spectrum (96 COE). It's called "compatibility." COE means Coefficient of Expansion. So, short answer, it should be okay to put your glass in a kiln. You might want to do some more research; try "warm glass" in Google search.

SHADES! I thoroughly enjoyed all 50 pics...twice!!! You are the QUEEN of Tables!!! And Louise> Hubba Hubba!! Welocome Todd! A couple of comments, GOG that I do is usually with silicone, but silicone looks better depending on what glass you will use. colored, textured glass types look okay but clear or sometimes pale colored glass or non textured glass can show the silicone, or perhaps I just don't take the time to smooth it out as good as I can. Also I too do not recomment more than 1inch grout lines, but a suggestion might be to add black glass in those areas, solid black, to off set the width of the grout. AND my last suggestion is to go to a Tile Shop to get the grout as box stores do not have true black and also have a bigger selection of colored grout. It sounds like you will be opening up a whole new window(lol)for yourself with trying GOG! And just so you know, we LUV pics of work in projects! Hope you stick around, the more the merrier! Oh, and another idea that I'm toying with is to go to a glass store and ask what they use to glue glass to glass as they have some good stuff, but it boils down to price and what I'm willing to spend, and how complicated it is. Right now I cut open a small tube of silicone and gloop away and am happy with that...

How do you tumble china, stained glass, and etc. for mosaics?

littlechloe Sat, Nov 6, 04 at 0:38 I put mine in a big plastic bottle with some water and a drop of soap and hand shake it for 10 minutes (good for the upper arms) mzclassic Wed, Nov 10, 04 at 6:28 Hi...I use the old ice cream maker without the paddle myself. Just enough water to cover my pieces and some dish soap and let it churn for about 20 to 30 minutes. Works great for me too. I use it on china or stained glass pieces....or stones, or rocks.....or whatever else I can find.

I got in ( had a snapfish account) I'm so envious of everyone who has a work area...and that glass!!! Your projects are fabulous.My favorite is the cat!! Those duckys are cute too!!

Oh, how NICE and neat your work is. That cat is absolutely BEAUTIFUL, as well as your first stained glass piece. I like it all. What did you use for the SG post?

I really love that glass shelf! Something like that is in my
future plans. I've always wanted Calamity's huge one, but that one would be perfect. That vent hood is a really wonderful idea for doing stained glass. I use one of those
tiny fume traps. Your work is really great. Thanks for reposting the pics in photobucket for us.

ICHEER!!!! I wanna be you!!!! What a dream room! What a cool tub outside!! A FAN, WOW!! All that natural light(windows) WOW! And you even did the floor!!!!! I LOVE that cat too, the glass is one of my most coveted ones as it is the color of an Arbutus tree, that is a local tree here, and one day I have plans to do one in stained glass. What a SWEET setup!!!! I'm DROOLING!!!

Thanks folks - I'm pretty proud (and appreciative!) of my dear hubby.

Calamity - I wish I'd done this floors myself but alas - they are original to the home. We just bought this place last fall and I fell in love with the room that I've shown you (Mom City) and two gorgeous live oaks in our front yard. Before I even came inside the house I told DH that if the house was salvageble that it was THE ONE because of the oak trees.

The room is very special to me - for the first time in ten years or so I have a place to call my own, set up exactly the way I envisioned. It also has a comfy couch and chair for when the kids or DH wanders back here, a small TV, a stereo, computers and our family book shelves, so while there is a lot of traffic through here I can still remain in my zen-glass state of mind :-)

Slow - the post is an old concrete post that was left in our back yard by the previous owners. DH tells me it is commonly used to shore up a house foundation. Luckily we don't have any foundation issues so the previous owner must've had a plan for it that just didn't come to fruition. Lucky me :-)

Ack - lunch is over, so back to work for me :-) Happy glassing everyone!

Icheer, what a dream work space! I love that you are able to look outside! Your DH did a great job! Nice mosaic and stained glass too!
