Your room is beautiful. I love the red plaid chair, and the colors of the space. The prints are nice with the chair. I think maybe the floor lamp is a little bit small for the chair? Sorry! I LOVE the lamps you have on the other side, especially the one with the black shade. Maybe you could find a floor lamp with a black shade for the corner next to the chair?

Maybe wrap prints around the corner - 2 on one wall and 2 on the other.

I agree. Two on one side two on the other, exactly the way they are top to bottom, but that will help finish the space.

I would love to see a wall-mounted swing-arm lamp. They have many that are plug-in style, so no hardwiring needed. It would fill the spot, give you better light for reading (reading light is supposed to come from over the shoulder, so I have read) and would add another decorative element.

If I might make one other suggestion. The sconces over the couch feel very high on the wall because there is so much of the large picture frame that falls below their level. I wonder if you might take the two framed pieces from the side wall by the window, and hang one under each of the sconces. I think you might get a better balance there.

Yes, around the corner, two and two...closer to the corner than to the side of the wall...I'd leave no more than six or eight inches between the corner and the inside edges. I think you have the height just right.

I'd also settle the chair just a wee bit more to the right as you face it, and move the lamp to the doorway side. You can afford to let the base sit a bit into the doorway, and get it out of the way of the doorswing on the other side. I think it will look less cramped that way.

As to the high sconces...I think they are fine as they are, but I might think about adding something to the composition on the left wall as you face the sofa, to bring its height up to the height of the pair on the right. I think that balance would solve les's issue, and bring the whole thing together without overloading the back wall. I notiuce that you have a bracket and a small print on the footstool in the first photo...you might put the bracket where the small print is now, with the sunburst mirror over it, and move the small print to the spot occupied by the sunburst now?

Thanks for the suggestions. I just finished hanging the corbel and pictures next to the sofa. I like it! Now it's time to relocate the two fern prints to the other wall. I'll post pics tomorrow. Thanks again!

Oh, and while I have your attention. Any ideas for what to put on the coffee table? I love to display books, but my younger lab, Molly, has been known to make an appetizer of the spines. Anyone have any inspiration pics they'd like to share?

Re-hanging the pictures took less time than I anticipated, so here is the new arrangement. I moved the chair to the right as bronwynsmom suggested. The space to the right of the prints still throws me off. I'll live with it for a few days and see how I feel about it later. As mentioned in my previous post, I added the corbel and the small print to the left side of the sofa. Your thoughts?

I see what you mean about the wall on the right of the chair. So try shifting the chair back where you had it, so that it is more closely aligned with the corner, and put the lamp back on the left, with the base beside the chair and the arm swung back against the wall, except when you are actually using it? A huge part of finalizing a design is the fiddling about with ideas that aren't working!

I think putting the prints that way makes the corner shrink, and clearly points out the imbalance in the walls. I think you also lose the balanced layout between the prints that way.

I would move them back the way they were, and if you donÂt care for the idea of a wall lamp, consider moving the corbel from the side wall to the empty corner wall, and add a great fern style plant on it, which will echo the prints on the other wall, creating a connection and balance.

I agree with Les. I think a swing arm lamp by the chair would work well. I prefer the prints on the one wall, also. Can you find a small table, or even a plant stand, something with height, to add some knicknack next to the chair? That would help balance it. Also, if you can't get a swing arm lamp, moving the lamp to the opposite wall works. Actually...move the four prints to the other wall now, that might work better.

Your room is so pretty! I love stuff on a coffee table, too, but with the chewy lab (been there, done that!) and the fact that you have a lot going on the sofa & the room in general, I'd just leave the table as negative space. It's a pretty table, and leaving it bare would seem to make it more friendly. A place to set your coffee cup or glass.

So... I moved the prints back to the wall on the right. I'm more comfortable with them all together on one wall. I don't really want a swing arm lamp, but was thinking of some type of wall wash sconce on the left wall. I just ordered a plug-in sconce from JCP, but am still open to other ideas.

Can you get two more of the fern prints? Because I think the chair corner would balance out well if there are two prints on the short wall and four on the wider wall. I don't think symmetry matters as much as balance -- and they aren't always the same thing.

bh - I just happen to have a similar shelf that belonged to my grandmother. It would need to be refinished. The only problem I can foresee is that I would have to put "stuff" on the shelves and dust them. Hmmmmm...

jakabedy - Getting two more prints is no problem. Finding the same frames, that's another story. I will look while out today.
