John and Elizabeth Edwards

Nearly a week has passed since John Edwards admitted his affair. I'm curious about what everyone thinks about this.

This is not meant to be a political discussion, but rather an exchange of thoughts:

1. Were you surprised by the news that he had an affair?

2. Do you believe that Elizabeth knew about his affair when she was out campaigning for him?

3. Do you think he is the father of Rielle Hunter's baby?

4. Do you think Elizabeth would have divorced him if she was healthy?

5. If you think Elizabeth knew about the affair before she started to campaign for him, what would be her reasoning to get up in front of the public and promote him as a good husband, a moral man, and one who was worthy of being President?

6. Why is it that politicians' wives usually stand behind their man after the affair is exposed?

Here are my thoughts:

1. No - I was not surprised.

2. I do not believe she knew about the affair until very recently.

3. I believe he is the father of the baby.

4. I think Elizabeth's cancer weighed heavily in her decision to remain in the marriage, coupled with the fact she has young children.

5. I don't think she knew.

6. I don't understand it. Perhaps these women know they've made a "deal with the devil" in that they married men with narcissistic traits and they have learned to enjoy the good (success), but they also tolerate the bad and the ugly?
