Anybody use flexible moulding?

Has anyone used this kind of moulding? I've seen some in magazines that actually looks floppy. I don't want the kind that only curves on a radius. I need it to actually "fold" in the middle.

We have joints in our cathedral ceiling that keep moving with temperature changes. (Long story. Sheetrock put on right against joists.)The tape pulls away and then shrinks back. This is not on the flat surfaces, only at the ceiling angle points. We've decided to put up moulding to cover the seams, but they are not 90 degree angles. I thought using a wide piece of rubbery moulding might work to cover and move with the two surfaces.

Will this work? Anybody know a good source for this stuff?

I'm not familiar with thr product you're describing but I'm thinking it's a bad idea. Anything that could fold that way would sag between fasteners and look awful. I'd fashion something from real wood.

I've used the flex molding a number of times. I've used it in the form of panel molding to do raised paneling on curved walls and have used it in the form of crown molding for curved surfaces (like a over a curved stairway). It is flexible but, it does have some stiffness and will not fold into anything near the angle that you are considering. Especially if it's a wide molding. Your best bet is to use a flexible caulk between the pieces of molding. If you really have a lot of movement, the caulking will eventually pull apart also. The real solution is to find out what's causing the problem and correct it.

What design do you want for the pavers ? Squares or some type of design , like a heart or a leaf etc ? There are many molds that you can buy, that may be easier. For Squares , you can make the molds using wood and screws.Unscrew to unmold. You can also use 2" builder grade styrofoam insulation, and cut out the design.

Greetings! I've been browsing the net for tips on just this subject and your thread has answered a lot of questions - thank you! I just have one more inquiry - do you know of a way to make the end product of one-part self curing silicones (after curing) softer and stretchier (lets say more like human skin, goal hardness is 10-30 shore A)? The reason I'm asking: I am a resident in heart surgery and I'm trying to make practice models of parts of the human heart and tissue to use for training outside the operating room. As you said the platinum cure silicones are used for this purpose but the price difference is tenfold and they're a bit too expensive for us.

Thank you all for posting this question and answering it - I have the same question :) So, can I just use a "kitchen" cabinet pull for a handle - I am thinking of using the one in my link - as I am looking for a handle with clean contemporary lines and I too don't think I want to use the traditional type of pocket door finger pull and have been wondering if it is possible to install a cabinet pull vertically on the door (like you would on a upper kitchen cabinet) instead. If you think it would work, what size pull do you think is the best - 8" maybe??? We do not need the door to go all the way into it's "pocket" either and they do not need to lock. I guess I am concerned that cabinet hardware would not be strong enough to use. If it was ordered with a specific radius, it will be simplicity itself to install. But if a straight piece, yes, be careful, you could break it if bent beyond what it will take. That's why you order it with the desired curve in mind. Heat may not really help it bend, but cold could cause it to break easier. Casey

How about using a real wood molding, you might have to custom make it, and fastening it to just one side of the joint thus creating a sliding joint cover? Just an idea.

How about the stretchy tape or stretchy coating (like krak-kote) you use on recurring plaster cracks? that stuff is GREAT!

Flexible moulding is more reliable and easy to work with than wood. It is more durable, insect and weather resistant. I will never go back to wood for my projects.
