Stained Glass & Mosaics

Where do you put all your stuff?

Some of you are so extremely prolific in your creations.

What do you do with it all? I'm picturing a storage area

in my garage at some point where I grout a project then just chuck it in the corner.

The black armoire was specifically for my home, but

that big red flower GOG and the future green moth in the big nickel frame are most definitely not.

Just curious.

My daughter gets a hunk of my mosaics...before they are dry she lays her claim...specific pieces goes to an art gallery...some go in a corner....some are gifts....I really haven't kept a whole lot...except for the orbs (and the ones tucked away in a hidden corner). I did recently sell two pieces at a "Little Black Dress" event for the Women's Center. I still want to mosaic myself some birdbaths, stepping stones, etc.

It is certainly becoming a problem here too. I can't help ya, my stuff is in the way until a planned art sale in Dec.

I have peg boards and nails in the garage walls for gardening tools and other hardware. There is also a small workshop on the back of the garage which is now garden/lawn storage. One year I went to a garage sale in the neighborhood and bought two small dressers to put in my garage for garden storage. Gloves, small tools, yarn, hose connectors, bags, etc. go in those. The tools I use every day, trowel, and hand weeder, go in the bottom of a pail by the back door. Like gmjan, I have multiples that I don't often use but might. My favorites go in the pail so I don't have to dig through the drawer. I like the idea of a place to hang them so will consider that. We used to move every 6-8 years but have been here 13 years and "stuff" has increased exponentially. Need to do a good sorting and culling.

Our bathroom is small (for a master) and since our vanity is along an exterior wall in Maine, we couldn't afford to give up insulation depth for a recessed medicine cabinet over the lavs. I was worried about where we'd put all the stuff, and planned open shelving for towels and baskets or smaller items. However, now that we've installed the cabinetry, I found I have LOADS of space and don't need the shelves. We designed a very sleek, simple vertical cabinet over the toilet, about 30" high by 6" deep by 16" wide. It holds feminine items and medicines and first aid stuff, and is only about 1/3 filled. Our vanity is sleek and up on legs, but we designed the sink installation to avoid interfering with the space at the top as much as possible, so we have four cavernous drawers to use. I got divider things from Ikea (soft and girly for me, square and hard for DH, since he didn't like mine!) and you can't believe how much stuff is in there. I put a plug on my side so I can keep a hair dryer in my top drawer. All of our towels are in one bottom drawer. And there's still loads of room! Also, our two closets are just outside the bathroom, so I figured if I have any overflow (like a big bulk package of toilet paper) it could be stashed there pretty easily.

Giggle. Yes, there is a product called Astroglide. It's a - ahem - "personal product." You probably shouldn't be using it on a moving motorcycle -- unless you're quite the wild child! :-) Harley makes several versions of the Electra Glide. What about rain? You get wet. Very wet. Even with rain gear. Remember how wet you got riding your bicycle home in the rain as a kid? Well, a motorcycle is going much faster, so there's more splashing of the water from the pavement. Depending on the design of the bike, the person on the back of the bike many get drenched even more. What do you do with your stuff? You leave it at home. You learn to travel very light. Will riding cause you to hurt? Maybe. Just as a sports car has more "road feel" than a limo, even a touring bike will have exponentially more road feel. Put it this way, my BIL is a serious Harley biker dude. He goes on day trips, but for longer trips like to Sturgis, SD (9-10 hours from here), he trailers the bike behind his truck and does short rides at his destination.

I keep all the racks in my ovens. If I absolutley can't store 4 or 5 racks in the other oven, for example, Thanksgiving dinner where both ovens are in use, then I put the un-needed racks on top of the washing machine in the laundry temporarily. One roasting pan lives under the bottom rack of the upper oven. I bake a lot of bread and I pour boiling water in there to create steam, or I roast veggies in it once a week. The other roasting pan stays in the cupboard above the ovens where I have vertical storage. There is enough room there for both racks if I need it. The fan covers, probes and manual (which I still occasionally refer to 3 years later) are all in a drawer next to the ovens while the rotisserie skewers and supports live horizontally accross the front of the drawers under the ovens. Kathie, FYI, I was at BBB with a coupon and bought an oven thermometer. It's a Tru-temp dial one that can either stand on the rack or hang from it. I have it on the OPPOSITE side of the oven from the sensor which I believe is on the same wall as the probe. I did a LOT of baking yesterday, cheesecake crusts at 350, then cheesecakes at 275, then up to 375 for a casserole and down to 350 for the cookies. The thermometer was spot on at every temperature. I did notice that the oven cooled down from 350 to 275 faster when switched on then when turned off.

Almost everthing I make I give as gifts. All my Christmas gifts are usually taken care of by the time December rolls around.

So far, I've had a spot for everything. I'm trying to be disciplined about not doing anything I don't have room for or someone to give it to..a couple things I bought at garage sales are iffy, but I have come up with spots for them. Stepping stones are good, have plenty of garden to fill!!

Like Hazie most of my stuff are gifts. I sometimes get mad at myself cause I really don't have that many pieces to show that I even do this stuff!!! Luckily I keep pictures.

I sell some stuff in a local gift shop, but mostly I make gifts. I made all the Christmas gifts I gave away last year and plan to do the same this year. I also make family bday presents. I have a pile in the basement just now too. I have surprisingly few items in my house and I really regret that. I have given the best pieces away.

I have absolutely no room for anything. That really dampens my spirit. ( My FIL lives with us and our house is crammed ) For the last month or so - I haven't even been able to get in my craft room .....we had to make room for walkers & wheelchairs and put all our excess stuff in the spare room . *sigh* The only thing that's keeping me sane is planning "future" projects.

Awww...TMG, so sorry you can't even get into your craft room to work but it is very sweet that you are taking care of your FIL! I wish I lived closer to you cause I'd let you share my space with me...and I could probably use my organizational skills in your house to find you a place to work! LOL

Thanks Barb ! The only thing I MADE room for is the mini watering can you sent me . It's right on top of my computer so I can see it every day ! :) I wished you lived close too -- organizing my house would be the challenge of your life ~~ LOL !
