My ex is being a jerk

So usually my ex and I get along and can comprimise to make things work. Lately he has been working crazy hours so he has not been seeing our son on his usual days. Then he will call me on his days off to see if he can get our son and 9 times out of 10 I accommodate him. I have never been the "stick to the court papers" type with him.

So anyways, he wanted our son to play sports this season. Practice is 5 days a week, 2 hours a day till school starts. I told him that if he wants our son to play that sport, which our son was not crazy about doing anyways, that he can help with the driving involved.

So yesterday he had said he was taking our son to practice. It worked great because I had to take my sd to her sport practice and the time had conflicted with my sons practice. So my ex called and said he was picking up our son for the day, but bringing him home before practice. I told him that won't work--I had already planned on him taking our son to practice like he had said and had to run my sd to her practice and my dh would be at work.

So my ex complained and had the nerve to tell me that our son's needs should come first and I needed to be more of a mother to our son!! I am so irratated with him now. I have always done more for our son than him and never had the luxury of just saying "I can't". But this time I put my foot down because he needs to stick to plans and not change them all the time to fit his needs. The world does not revolve around his life!

What would you have said to a situation like that?
