Oil in Motor of Ironrite Rotary Iron. what do I do now?

Hi,

I just bought an old 1946 Ironrite rotary iron (like your granny used to have). Unfortunately, the man I bought it from did not know that you should not lay it down. There is about 6 oz. of oil that goes in the housing of the gears. This oil can seep out past the gasket and it can also get into the motor. I can't see into the motor and I am afraid to take the bolt off of the motor housing for fear that I can't get it back together. Any suggestions? Can I try to plug it in and see what happens or will I do some harm to the motor. I am soooo frustrated since I have waited and waited to find one of these Ironers in my area. Now I have it and I am too nervous to even try and plug it in....btw, the original electrical cord need replacing. Yikes! I think I can plug it in, however, with the plug that is on it now (at least for a try).

Any advise is welcome.
