Ahhh I love a good window discussion! No one but us "window geeks" can get this charged up over something that the rest of the world doesn't give a second thought to until they break, rot, or they want to build a new house. My background comes in Clad wood windows so I can say I was fed the Kool-Aid regarding wood products. I have been converted to see the benefits of vinyl and I must say there is good product out there very able to withstand whatever weather is thrown at it. Lzerarc's name is on his projects at the end of the day and he must ultimately be comfortable with what he is recommending to his customers. Skydawggy and I share the belief that the current vinyl products on the market are built both to perform and look good and we are comfortable recommending them to our clients as well. Will a vinyl window ever beat a wood window for the classic look, custom attributes, and warmth that wood provides? Not likely. Will they stand up to the elements, provide similar performance ratings, and energy efficiency? Sure. Ultimately the homeowner must decide the best fit for their needs based on the information professionals provide. Tank you for the discussion guys. maz1234: I'm currently waiting on one more quote from Jeld Wen, however, my mind is made up, Integrity will be our choice. Integrity prices were very competitive. Keep in mind, my windows are simple and the pricing reflects that. Also, not sure on your window size, but I think Integrity does have size limitations.... Anderson 400 were 30% more...... Thanks for the responses. I'm glad I'm looking into the recommended brands. A few more questions: Do you know if Okna only manufactures 1 type of new construction window? (I just tried going on their site but it seems to be down or has expired.) I thought that Gorell was manufactured in western Pa but I had a sales guy (he doesn't carry Gorell) try to tell me the other day that Gorell was based out of Colorado and that they were no longer going to be offered east of the Mississippi River in a few weeks time. I was surprised by this and didn't contradict him as I wasn't sure of the facts but looking at their site, it looks to be untrue. Any ideas? Thanks again for the help.

I am replacing the siding and windows on my entire Wisconsin home built in the70s. there are 19 windows. Yes I’m getting rid of the brick... complete exterior remodel. 1)since i am doing siding, do I do new construction windows or do I do vinyl inserts 2) there are so many window manufacturers, can anyone tell me which windows I should consider for this house and which ones I should not put in my house..? I habe heard That plygem is an average company and I have also heard it’s not recommended. What about hayfield out of MN or alliance ? thabk you 2
