Anyone use Geoshield clear window film (IR-70) for UV protection?
Comments (2)Seems a bit high to me for an applied film but truth be told, I have no idea what people charge for this stuff. 3M makes a bunch of nice stuff so I would check out their offering first and then go from there....See Moreasap - any experience with uv blocking film on windows?
Comments (11)Thanks, Tibb, but I'm going to have this done professionally. Some things I'll DIY, but I just don't think I have the skills or patience to do this job properly. And on my front door, I want it perfect. I'm hopeful the pro is going to have some film that appears to be clear but blocks the UV rays. If I have to go with a slight tint, I may do that. The sun reaches into the LR and strikes the rug and a chair. In the entry, it is blasting down on a chest that I love. Some protection is necessary. In our old house we had woven wood roman shades on similar doors. DH kept them down all the time and it drove me nuts! It was like living in a cave. If I were to put up window coverings, I'm afraid he would keep them down all the time. Best way to avoid it becoming an "issue" is just not to have anything like that on the windows....See MoreDoes anyone have Experience with Sierra Pacific windows?
Comments (9)We chose Sierra Pacific casement windows for our custom home that was built in 2018. The SP windows we used are an improved version of the old Hurd H3 windows which combined a vinyl "core" with wood on the interior and aluminum clad on the exterior. I thought the science of the design made a lot of sense. The stats on the casement windows are impressive so that is what sold us on the window. We live in the Southeast and the windows come standard with upgraded aluminum powder coating on the exterior, low e366 coating and argon gas. We have several windows that face west so we will see how the windows manage hot summer sun. We did have some issues with 5 of the 60+ windows installed. When the casement window was closed, you could see a gap between the sill and the frame. On windy days you could hear a faint whistle. Our builder stayed on the problem working first with our local distributor who then turned it over to the local Sierra Pacific rep. The rep said the wrong size "snubber" (I think that is the name of the part) was installed on those 5 windows. Correcting the issue is a matter of replacing the part. SP was aware that some large casements were manufactured with the wrong size snubber. When we realized we had windows that were not closing properly, I was nervous that there would be a bunch of finger pointing about the issue and it would drag on and on. The local distributor was very responsive and their service tech tried to correct the issue before calling in the SP rep. Our meeting with the rep was only last week so I can't say yet that the issue is solved to our satisfaction - but so far we have been very, very pleased with SP's response. The rep certainly seemed sincere in his promise to resolve the issues. We've only been in our home 5 months so I can't speak to how the SP windows will hold up long-term. At this point I can recommend the windows and feel the energy efficiency of the windows combined with the cost make a very impressive case for the brand....See Moreone way privacy windows/films, e-windows
Comments (5)One-way privacy glass doesn't work the way your probably think. During the day, you'll be looking out through a heavily tinted window. From the outside it will look like a dark mirror. At night just the opposite will be true - no nighttime privacy at all....See Moreguy_exterior_man
