Would like advise

Hello, I have been reading this post for about a year and have found it helpful. This site made me realize I am not alone and many others encounter the same mixed emotions I have with being involved in a blended family for the last 6 years. I am divorsed from an 18 year old marrage, with no children of my own, have good employment and can support myself, married into a situation with 2 older step children (at present girl 24, boy 21), with DH and his ex bitter towards each other, my ex is totally out of the picture. When my ex and I divorsed we totally separated everything which makes for a pleasant calm. Whenever, the adult step children come into our life they want something. I know from listening to other parents in this generation, this is normal for children (even adult children). However, I get tired of adult children always demanding money, material items and thinking they are owed this from their Dad. It does not help that they have never been respectful or nice to me. The stepchildren never remember my birthday or our wedding anniversary. They were in our small wedding, in fact they were the only ones there. They have both lived with us and during those times have done hurtful and uncaring things to us. My DH can over look those things because they our his blood, but I have more difficulty with always overlooking the hurtful uncaring things. I have tired and tired to be nice to them and help them with things, with nothing in return. When first starting out I truely liked them and thought they would come around and be nice as they got to know me and matured. But things have not changed, they just don't like me. DH's ex also has done hurtful things and does not like us. My question is how do I start to really like the step children again and want them in our life? I feel really bad that I don't love or even really like my stepchildren, my DH children. How does a person change this? Do they have to be nice to me for me to ever feel close to them? Help, I real want this for all of us, (myself, DH and for the stepchildren).
