Okna 400 windows v. Soft-Lite Pro
Comments (65)My advice to everyone I talk to is that they should purchase the best window that they can which fits into their budget. The only caveat to that, is the folks that do not have a realistic budget to begin with, but that is not a problem here. Ultimately, you are spending $5k give or take. A difference of a few hundred dollars is going to be very small if not irrelevant in the grand scheme when you take into consideration the size of the purchase and the fact that you have to live with these windows for the next X number of years. If you have the windows for 20 yrs, that is a difference $2 and change per month, or $32 per yr. When you look at it that way, it doesn't seem to make much sense to base this choice on price. My advice: Pick the window that you like better from the installation company that you like better. Easy as that. You won't go wrong either way on product (installer is another matter, but we can't really offer much on that without knowing the companies in question). Easy enough ;)...See MoreOkna v. Vytex
Comments (7)Your quote looks to be very reasonable and triple pane is a nice option for added energy performance. The vytex fortis is a very nice window and is made to be very air tight. Vytex seems to be really expanding that product and generating a lot of interest throughout the window industry. I strongly believe its right up there in quality with the upper end product lines of competitive companies you may have read about. Vytex as a company is in very good standing and has been in the window manufacturing business for over 30 years strong. My area is chock full of overly analytical government types who seem to really embrace that product. the vytex budget line is called "georgetown " for when a consumer is on a limited budget . its a very decent window when compared to many other product lines of similar brand recognition in that category. The Fortis is definitely the better looking and better performing window....See MoreVytex Potomac Series v. Okna 500
Comments (8)No. The better window is what it is, and its essentially $37 per window difference. A window that is of superior quality and performance will be better from day one, and that gap will only grow wider over time as the inferior product will degrade more rapidly. Both of those products SHOULD still look and operate like new in 5 years, but if your 5 yr plan turns into 10-15 or more, I'd want the better product both for your benefit and that of the potential buyer. Lastly, you might consider letting the Okna dealer know your situation and see if there is anything that he can do to help close that gap in $. 27 windows is a nice sale that I'm sure he/she does not want to lose....See MoreChoosing new windows for 45 year old home
Comments (15)I'd like to hire my carpenter to install vinyl siding, but he's not happy about possibly working with a sub who would be a certified installer from the window company. So I'll ask him which windows he can get from his supplier., but I read online that if a certified installer doesn't install the windows, warranty issues are troublesome. Dealer blames window company, window dealer blames installer. I'd rather he do the siding, but we need to do windows as well. Meanwhile I'm getting more estimates from companies who do both siding and windows, then I'll decide. Recap, now Looking at 25 replacement doublehung vinyl windows. Big investment , especially coupled with vinyl siding installation. I wanna get it right. There's dozens of choices, and it's confusing because you have to weigh cost, energy efficiency, etc.. I've learned a lot here, thanks to you guys. The Sunrise (Vanguard) dealer only sells and windows. Another contractor, Mastic siding , only sells Ellison 1300 windows. A third company, Certainteed siding and Simonton 5500 windows, which do not seem to be highly regarded here.. A fourth (not local) Alside Siding and Mezzo Windows, again, not highly regarded here. Today is my last quote, and he's (not local) Certainteed Siding, and Polaris windows. Any thoughts?...See MoreActaeon
